But they were not estranged from their lust; but while their meat was yet in their mouths,
They were not estranged from that which they desired, Their food was yet in their mouths,
Before they had satisfied their desire, And while their food was in their mouths,
But scarce had they stilled their craving, and while their meat was yet in their mouths,
They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

But they didn’t stop craving— even with the food still in their mouths!
They were still fulfilling their craving, the food was still in their mouths,
But before they had swallowed the last bite,
They were not alienated from their lust, their meat was yet in their mouths,
But before they were fully satisfied, while the food was still in their mouths,
But God became very angry with them, even before they had finished eating. While the food was still in their mouths, he killed the strongest men among them. Many of the best young Israelite men died.
They had not yet turned away from what they craved. Their food was still in their mouths.

They had not yet turned aside from their craving, while their food was still in their mouth,
But they had hardly finished eating, and the meat was yet in their mouths,
When God heard that, he was furious— his anger flared against Jacob, he lost his temper with Israel. It was clear they didn’t believe God, had no intention of trusting in his help. But God helped them anyway, commanded the clouds and gave orders that opened the gates of heaven. He rained down showers of manna to eat, he gave them the Bread of Heaven. They ate the bread of the mighty angels; he sent them all the food they could eat. He let East Wind break loose from the skies, gave a strong push to South Wind. This time it was birds that rained down— succulent birds, an abundance of birds. He aimed them right for the center of their camp; all round their tents there were birds. They ate and had their fill; he handed them everything they craved on a platter. But their greed knew no bounds; they stuffed their mouths with more and more. Finally, God was fed up, his anger erupted— he cut down their brightest and best, he laid low Israel’s finest young men.

But even before they had finished eating, God acted. He did it while the food was still in their mouths.

They were not deprived of their craving; But while their food was still in their mouths,
But before they had eaten all they wanted, even while it was still in their mouths,
But before they satisfied their craving, while the meat was yet in their mouths,

They were not estranged from their ta’avah. But while their food was yet in their mouths,

No longer a stranger from their desire, while their food was still in their mouths,
But before their bellies were soothed, while their mouths were still full of food,
They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
they were not defrauded of their desire. Yet their meats were in their mouth; (but their desire, or their yearning, was not yet quenched. And so while the food were yet in their mouths;)
