My heart grew hot within me; whenever I thought of it, the fire burned. Then, [at last,] I let my tongue speak:
“Please, Lord, show me my future. Will I soon be gone?
Make me to know, Jehovah, mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: I shall know how frail I am.
And he put a new canticle into my mouth, a song to our God. Many shall see, and shall fear: and they shall hope in the Lord.
Lord, tell me, what will happen to me now? Tell me, how long will I live? Let me know how short my life really is.
‘Lord, tell me about my life. Tell me how long it will be, and when it will finish. I need to remember that life is only short.
Lord, help me understand my end. What is the limit of my days? Let me know how fleeting I am.

Oh! we’re all shadows in a campfire. Oh! we’re just spit in the wind. We make our pile, and then we leave it.
“Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how transient I am.

I said, “Lord, show me when my life will end. Show me how many days I have left. Tell me how short my life will be.
