Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding.

“The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation].
The beginning of Wisdom is: get Wisdom (skillful and godly Wisdom)! [For skillful and godly Wisdom is the principal thing.] And with all you have gotten, get understanding (discernment, comprehension, and interpretation).
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Wisdom is supreme—so get wisdom. And whatever else you get, get understanding.

“The first step to becoming wise is to look for wisdom, so use everything you have to get understanding.
Learn to be wise, because wisdom is the most important thing to have. Make sure that you learn to understand things well.
The beginning of wisdom is to obtain Wisdom. Give up everything you have, in order to gain Understanding.

When I was a boy at my father’s knee, the pride and joy of my mother, He would sit me down and drill me: “Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live! Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding! Don’t forget one word! Don’t deviate an inch! Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life; love her—she keeps her eye on you. Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won’t regret it; never let her go—she’ll make your life glorious. She’ll garland your life with grace, she’ll festoon your days with beauty.”
Wisdom is principal; therefore get wisdom. And with all your getting, get understanding.

Gaining sound judgment is key, so first things first: go after Lady Wisdom! Now, whatever else you do, follow through to understanding.

The beginning of wisdom, wield thou wisdom; and in all thy possession, get thou prudence. (The beginning of wisdom, is that thou first obtain wisdom; and among all thy possessions, of greatest importance is that thou get understanding.)
