For the builders, every one, had his sword girded by his side, and so built. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

Every builder had his sword secured at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet [to summon the troops] stood at my side.

For every one of the builders was girded with a sword about his reins. And they built, and sounded with a trumpet by me.
Each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. The man who blew the trumpet to warn the people stayed next to me.
All of the builders had swords tied on their belts while they were building. There was a man who would make a sound with his trumpet if there was danger. He stayed near me.
As they built, the builders were armed, each man with his sword on his hip. The man who sounded the ram’s horn was next to me.
And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built. The man who sounded the trumpet was beside me.
And each of the builders had his sword strapped at his side while he built. The man who sounded the trumpet was beside me.
Each builder wore his sword at his side as he ·worked [built]. The trumpeter [C to signal an attack] stayed next to me.
For every one of the builders had his sword girded on his loins, and so built: and he that blew the trumpet, was beside me.

and everyone who was building kept a sword strapped to their waist. The man who was to sound the alarm on the bugle stayed with me.

Our enemies learned that we knew all about their plan and that God had frustrated it. And we went back to the wall and went to work. From then on half of my young men worked while the other half stood guard with lances, shields, bows, and mail armor. Military officers served as backup for everyone in Judah who was at work rebuilding the wall. The common laborers held a tool in one hand and a spear in the other. Each of the builders had a sword strapped to his side as he worked. I kept the trumpeter at my side to sound the alert.

The builders did their work—now with swords strapped to their sides. Even common laborers carrying building materials did so while carrying a weapon. I kept the man whose responsibility it was to warn everyone of attack by sounding the trumpet with me at all times.
Among the builders, everyone wore his sword at his side, and so built. He who sounded the trumpet was by me.
For each of the builders was girded with a sword upon his reins; and they builded the wall, and they sounded with clarions beside me. (And each of the builders was girded with a sword around his waist, as they rebuilt the wall. And the man who sounded with the trumpet was beside me.)
And the builders [are] each with his sword, girded on his loins, and building, and he who is blowing with a trumpet [is] beside me.
