And when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled (that is to say, unwashed) hands, they found fault.
and had seen that some of his disciples ate their bread with defiled, that is, unwashen, hands.
and they had seen that some of His disciples ate their bread with [ceremonially] impure hands, that is, unwashed [and defiled according to Jewish religious ritual].
For they had seen that some of His disciples ate with common hands, that is, unwashed [with hands defiled and unhallowed, because they had not given them a ceremonial washing]—
And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
They observed that some of his disciples were eating bread with unclean—that is, unwashed—hands.
They observed that some of his disciples were eating bread with unclean – that is, unwashed – hands.
They saw some of his disciples eating food with unclean hands. (They were eating without first ritually purifying their hands through washing.
and saw that some of his talmidim ate with ritually unclean hands, that is, without doing n’tilat-yadayim.

and seeing some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, unwashed, hands,
And having seen some of His disciples, that they are eating their bread with defiled hands, that is, unwashed—
And when they had seen some of his disciples eat bread with common, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.
They saw that some of his followers ate food with hands that were not clean, meaning that they did not wash their hands in a special way.
They had been watching Jesus' disciples. Some of the disciples did not wash their hands before they ate a meal. That is to say, they did not wash them in the right way.
They saw some of his disciples eating bread with unclean (that is, unwashed) hands.
they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
They saw that some of Jesus’ ·followers [disciples] ate food with hands that were not clean, that is, they hadn’t [ceremonially] washed them.
And when they saw some of his disciples eat meat with common hands, (that is to say, unwashen) they complained.
They saw that some of his disciples were unclean because they ate without washing their hands.
They noticed that some of his disciples were eating their food with hands that were ritually unclean—that is, they had not washed them in the way the Pharisees said people should.
They observed that some of His disciples were eating their bread with unclean—that is, unwashed—hands.
They saw that some of Jesus’ followers ate food with hands that were not clean. (“Not clean” means that they did not wash their hands in the way the Pharisees said people must.
They noticed that some of his disciples were eating with unclean hands, that is, without washing them.
And now Jesus was approached by the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem. They had noticed that his disciples ate their meals with “common” hands—meaning that they had not gone through a ceremonial washing. (The Pharisees, and indeed all the Jews, will never eat unless they have washed their hands in a particular way, following a traditional rule. And they will not eat anything bought in the market until they have first performed their “sprinkling”. And there are many other things which they consider important, concerned with the washing of cups, jugs and basins.) So the Pharisees and the scribes put this question to Jesus, “Why do your disciples refuse to follow the ancient tradition, and eat their bread with ‘common’ hands?”

and noticed that some of his disciples failed to follow the usual Jewish rituals before eating.
The Pharisees, along with some religion scholars who had come from Jerusalem, gathered around him. They noticed that some of his disciples weren’t being careful with ritual washings before meals. The Pharisees—Jews in general, in fact—would never eat a meal without going through the motions of a ritual hand-washing, with an especially vigorous scrubbing if they had just come from the market (to say nothing of the scourings they’d give jugs and pots and pans).
When they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, ritually unwashed hands, they found fault.
and noticed that some of his disciples were eating the loaves with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
They saw that some of his disciples were unclean because they ate without washing their hands.
they observed that some of his disciples ate their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands.
and saw that some of His disciples were eating their bread with unholy hands, that is, unwashed.
and had seen that some of His disciples were eating their bread with impure hands, that is, unwashed.
they noted that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them.
They saw that some of Jesus’ followers ate food with hands that were not clean, that is, they hadn’t washed them.
And they saw that some of Jesus’ disciples ate their bread with unclean hands, that is, unwashed.
They saw some of his disciples eating food with “unclean” hands. That means they were not washed.
and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed.
Now when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.
They had seen some of His followers eat bread without washing their hands.
They noticed that some of his disciples failed to follow the Jewish ritual of hand washing before eating.
And when they saw certain of his disciples eating bread with common hands (that is to say, with unwashed hands), they complained.
they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them.

Scribes and Scholars (seeing the disciples eating): Your disciples are eating bread with defiled, unwashed hands.
Now when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is unwashed, hands, they found fault.
They saw some of the disciples eating food. They had not washed their hands before they ate. The Pharisees said that was wrong.
And when they had seen some of his disciples eat bread with unwashen hands, they blamed [them].
and having seen certain of his disciples with defiled hands -- that is, unwashed -- eating bread, they found fault;
