It is like a grain of mustard seed which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth.

It is like a mustard seed, which, when it is sown on the ground, even though it is smaller than all the [other] seeds that are [sown] on the soil,

Consider a mustard seed. When scattered on the ground, it’s the smallest of all the seeds on the earth;
It is like a mustard seed, which, when planted, is the smallest of all the seeds in the field;
It is like what happens when a mustard seed is planted in the ground. It is the smallest seed in all the world.
As to a grain of mustard [seed], which, when it is sown upon the earth, is less than all seeds which are upon the earth,
as a seed of a mustard-plant, which when it is sown upon the soil is being smaller than all the seeds upon the soil.
It is as a grain of mustard seed: which when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth:
God’s kingdom is like a mustard seed, which is smaller than any other seed on earth that you can plant.
It is like this: A man takes a seed of the plant called mustard. He plants it in the soil. It is smaller than any other seed that people plant in the soil.
It is like a mustard seed, which when sown on the ground is one of the smallest of all the seeds planted in the ground.
It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth,

Then he continued, “What can we say the kingdom of God is like? How shall we put it in a parable? It is like a tiny grain of mustard-seed which, when it is sown, is smaller than any seed that is ever sown. But after it is sown in the earth, it grows up and becomes bigger than any other plant. It shoots out great branches so that birds can come and nest in its shelter.”

“How can we picture God’s kingdom? What kind of story can we use? It’s like an acorn. When it lands on the ground it is quite small as seeds go, yet once it is planted it grows into a huge oak tree with thick branches. Eagles nest in it.”
