If I be wicked, why then labor I in vain?
I shall be condemned; Why then do I labor in vain?
“I am accounted wicked and held guilty; Why then should I labor in vain [to appear innocent]?
I shall be held guilty and be condemned; why then should I labor in vain [to appear innocent]?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
Since I will be found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?
Since I will be found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?
I myself am thought guilty; why have I tried so hard in vain?
I will be condemned, so why waste my efforts?
So what's the use of trying to prove my innocence?
Be it that I am wicked, why then do I labour in vain?
But if so also I am wicked, why have I laboured in vain?
I will be found guilty, so why should I even think about it?
So, if I am guilty, it is useless to do anything about it.
I have already been declared guilty, so why should I struggle for nothing.
I shall be condemned; why then do I labor in vain?
I shall be condemned; why then do I labour in vain?
I have already been ·found guilty [declared wicked], so why should I ·struggle [L exhaust myself] for no reason?
If I be wicked, why labor I thus in vain?
I’ve already been found guilty. Why should I work so hard for nothing?
Since I am held guilty, why should I bother?
Since I will be found guilty, why should I labor in vain?
I have already been found guilty. So why should I struggle for no reason?
I will be condemned, so why should I wear myself out with this futility?
If I am wicked, why then shall I toil in vain?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?
I am accounted wicked; Why then should I toil in vain?
If I shall be declared guilty, why then should I labor in vain?
but will condemn me. So what’s the use of trying?
“My time is short—what’s left of my life races off too fast for me to even glimpse the good. My life is going fast, like a ship under full sail, like an eagle plummeting to its prey. Even if I say, ‘I’ll put all this behind me, I’ll look on the bright side and force a smile,’ All these troubles would still be like grit in my gut since it’s clear you’re not going to let up. The verdict has already been handed down—‘Guilty!’— so what’s the use of protests or appeals? Even if I scrub myself all over and wash myself with the strongest soap I can find, It wouldn’t last—you’d push me into a pigpen, or worse, so nobody could stand me for the stink.
If I am guilty, why then do I labor in vain?
I’ve already been found guilty. Why should I work so hard for nothing?
It is I who will be accounted guilty; why then should I strive in vain?
I am guilty, Why then should I struggle in vain?
“I am accounted wicked, Why then should I toil in vain?
“If I am to be condemned as guilty, why then should I struggle in vain?
I have already been found guilty, so why should I struggle for no reason?
If I am guilty, why then weary myself in vain?
In fact, you have already said I’m guilty. So why should I struggle without any reason?
Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?
Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?
If I am condemned, Why then do I labor in vain?
Because I am already guilty, why should I try for nothing?
Whatever happens, I will be found guilty. So what’s the use of trying?
I shall be condemned; why then do I labour in vain?

If I am condemned— why should I struggle in vain?
So if the verdict is already in, if I have already been found guilty, why should I bother to clear my name? Why struggle in vain?
I will be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
And if I am also thus wicked, why have I travailed in vain? (And if I am held to be wicked, then why travail I in vain?)
I -- I am become wicked; why [is] this? [In] vain I labour.
