When I lie down, I say, ‘When shall I arise and the night be gone?’ And I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

If I lie down and think—When will I get up?— night drags on, and restless thoughts fill me until dawn.
When I lie down, I ask, ‘When can I get up?’ But the night is long, and I keep tossing to and fro until daybreak.
I pray for night to end, but it stretches out while I toss and turn.
If I lie down, I say, When shall I rise up, and the darkness be gone? and I am full of tossings until the dawn.
If I lie down to sleep, I shall say: When shall arise? and again I shall look for the evening, and shall be filled with sorrows even till darkness.
When I lie down, I think, ‘How long before it’s time to get up?’ The night drags on. I toss and turn until the sun comes up.
When I lie down at night to sleep, I think, “How soon will the night end?” But the night continues and I cannot sleep. Finally, dawn comes.
When I lie down, I think, “How long before I get up?” But the night drags on, and I am filled with restlessness until dawn.
When I lie down I say, ‘When shall I arise?’ But the night is long, and I toss and turn till the dawn.

“Human life is a struggle, isn’t it? It’s a life sentence to hard labor. Like field hands longing for quitting time and working stiffs with nothing to hope for but payday, I’m given a life that meanders and goes nowhere— months of aimlessness, nights of misery! I go to bed and think, ‘How long till I can get up?’ I toss and turn as the night drags on—and I’m fed up! I’m covered with maggots and scabs. My skin gets scaly and hard, then oozes with pus. My days come and go swifter than the click of knitting needles, and then the yarn runs out—an unfinished life!
When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise and the night be ended?’ And I am full of restlessness until the dawn.
When I lie down, I ask, ‘When will I get up?’ But the evening is long, and I’m exhausted from tossing about until dawn.

When I lay down I say, “When will I rise?” The night drags on, and I toss until the day dawns.
When I lie down at the end of day, I wonder, “How soon till morning so I can arise?” But the night stretches on, and I toss and turn until sunrise.
When I lie down, I say, ‘When will I arise, and the night be gone?’ I toss and turn until the dawning of the day.
If I shall sleep, I shall say, When shall I rise? and again I shall abide the eventide, and I shall be full-filled with sorrows unto darknesses come (and I shall be filled full with sorrow until the darknesses come).
If I lay down then I said, `When do I rise!' And evening hath been measured, And I have been full of tossings till dawn.
