which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid.
Which are black by reason of the ice, And wherein the snow hideth itself:
Which are dull and dirty because of ice, And into which the snow melts and hides itself;
Which are black and turbid by reason of the ice, and in which the snows hides itself;

they may turn dark with ice and be hidden by piled-up snow;
like streams that swell with melting snow,
Which are turbid by reason of the ice, in which the snow hideth itself:
They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.
In the winter, it is choked with ice and melting snow.
In the spring, ice and deep snow covers them.

The streams are choked with snow and ice,

Filled with waters made cold by ice, they are where the snow goes to hide.

My brother, you have proved as unreliable as a brook; it floods when there is ice and snow, but in hot weather, disappears. The caravans turn aside to be refreshed, but there is nothing there to drink, and so they perish.

And you, my so-called friends, are no better— there’s nothing to you! One look at a hard scene and you shrink in fear. It’s not as though I asked you for anything— I didn’t ask you for one red cent— Nor did I beg you to go out on a limb for me. So why all this dodging and shuffling?

Which are blackish muddy by reason of the kerakh (ice), and wherein the sheleg (snow) is melted.

That contain dark, muddy swirls of thawing ice that swell in the melting snow,

Snow shall come upon them, that dread frost.
That are black because of ice, By them doth snow hide itself.
