Why then is this people of Jerusalem turned away with a perpetual turning away [from Me]? They hold fast to deceit (idolatry); they refuse to repent and return [to God].
Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
Why have these people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to return.

Why then does this people, rebellious Jerusalem, persistently turn away from me? They cling to deceit and refuse to return.
Why do these people keep backsliding? Why is their backsliding so persistent? They cling to deceit and refuse to return!
So why do you refuse to come back to me? Why do you hold so tightly to your false gods?
Why hath this people of Jerusalem slidden back with a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
Why then is this people in Jerusalem turned away with a stubborn revolting? they have laid hold on lying, and have refused to return.
The people of Judah went the wrong way. But why do the people of Jerusalem continue going the wrong way? They believe their own lies. They refuse to turn around and come back.
So why have the people of Jerusalem not turned back to me? They turn away from me all the time. They believe the lies of false gods, and they refuse to return to me.
Then why has this people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They hang on to deception and refuse to let it go.
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.
Why, then, have the people of Jerusalem gone the wrong way and not turned back? They ·believe their own lies [persisted in deceit/treachery] and refuse to turn back.
Wherefore is this people of Jerusalem turned back by a perpetual rebellion? they gave themselves to deceit, and would not return.
The people of Jerusalem turned away from me without ever returning. They still cling to deceit. They refuse to return.
Why then, my people, do you turn away from me without ever turning back? You cling to your idols and refuse to return to me.
Why have these people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to return.
Why, then, have the people of Judah gone the wrong way? And why do the people of Jerusalem not turn back? They believe their own lies. They refuse to turn around and come back.
Why has this people turned away? Why does Jerusalem continue in apostasy? They hold on to deceit and refuse to repent.
Why then is this people of Jerusalem rebellious with a perpetual rebellion? They hold fast deceit; they refuse to return.
Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

Why then has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual faithlessness? They hold fast to deceit; They refuse to return.
Why has this people, Jerusalem, turned away in enduring apostasy? They have kept hold of deceit, they have refused to return.
Once again give them this message from the Lord: When a person falls, he jumps up again; when he is on the wrong road and discovers his mistake, he goes back to the fork where he made the wrong turn. But these people keep on along their evil path, even though I warn them.
“Tell them this, God’s Message: “‘Do people fall down and not get up? Or take the wrong road and then just keep going? So why does this people go backward, and just keep on going—backward! They stubbornly hold on to their illusions, refuse to change direction. I listened carefully but heard not so much as a whisper. No one expressed one word of regret. Not a single “I’m sorry” did I hear. They just kept at it, blindly and stupidly banging their heads against a brick wall. Cranes know when it’s time to move south for winter. And robins, warblers, and bluebirds know when it’s time to come back again. But my people? My people know nothing, not the first thing of God and his rule.
Why then is this people of Jerusalem turned away by a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.
The people of Jerusalem turned away from me without ever returning. They still cling to deceit. They refuse to return.
Why then do these people resist with persistent rebellion? Why do they cling to deception, refuse to turn back?
Why has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual apostasy? They hold on to deceit, They refuse to return.
“Why then has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual apostasy? They hold fast to deceit, They refuse to return.
Why then do these people continue to rebel and persist in their obstinate infidelity? Why do they continue in their treachery and refuse to turn back?
Why, then, have the people of Jerusalem gone the wrong way and not turned back? They believe their own lies and refuse to turn around and come back.
Why, then, do these people of Jerusalem continually turn away from me in apostasy? They hold fast to their deception. They refuse to turn back to me.
Then why have the people of Jerusalem turned away from me? Why do they always turn away? They keep on telling lies. They refuse to come back to me.
Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return.

Then why do these people stay on their self-destructive path? Why do the people of Jerusalem refuse to turn back? They cling tightly to their lies and will not turn around.
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They have held fast to deceit, they have refused to return.

Why then does HaAm Hazeh turn away in perpetual meshuvah (backsliding)? They hold fast to deceit, refusing to make teshuvah.
“Why has this people of Jerusalem backslid in a perpetual apostasy? They gave themselves to deceit and would not return.
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, they refuse to return.
Why then has this people turned away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, they refuse to return.
Why then has this people—Jerusalem— turned away in perpetual backsliding? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return.
So why have these people turned away from Me and refused to come back? They hang onto lies that lead them further away instead of embracing the truth and coming home to Me.
Why then have the people of Jerusalem fallen back by a perpetual backsliding? They cling to deceit. They refuse to return.
Why therefore is this people in Jerusalem turned away by turning away full of strife? They have taken leasing, and would not turn again (They have taken hold of lies, and would not return to me).
Wherefore hath this people of Jerusalem Turned back -- a perpetual backsliding? They have kept hold on deceit, They have refused to turn back.
