Does a fountain send forth [simultaneously] from the same opening fresh water and bitter?
Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
Does a spring pour out sweet and bitter water from the same opening?
Does a spring pour out sweet and bitter water from the same opening?
Both fresh water and salt water don’t come from the same spring, do they?
A spring doesn’t send both fresh and bitter water from the same opening, does it?
Can clean water and dirty water both flow from the same spring?
Does the fountain, out of the same opening, pour forth sweet and bitter?
The spring does not gush out of the same opening the sweet and the bitter, does it?
Doth a fountain send forth, out of the same hole, sweet and bitter water?
Do good water and bad water flow from the same spring? Of course not.
Salty water and sweet water never come from the same spring.
A spring does not pour out both fresh and bitter water from the same opening, does it?
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?
Do ·good [fresh; L sweet] and ·bad [stale; or salt; L bitter] water flow from the same [L opening of a] spring?
Doth a fountain send forth at one place sweet water and bitter?
Do clean and polluted water flow out of the same spring?
No spring of water pours out sweet water and bitter water from the same opening.
Does a spring pour out sweet and bitter water from the same opening?
Do good and bad water flow from the same spring?
A spring cannot pour both fresh and brackish water from the same opening, can it?
Beasts, birds, reptiles and all kinds of sea-creatures can be, and in fact are, tamed by man, but no one can tame the human tongue. It is an evil always liable to break out, and the poison it spreads is deadly. We use the tongue to bless our Father, God, and we use the same tongue to curse our fellow-men, who are all created in God’s likeness. Blessing and curses come out of the same mouth—surely, my brothers, this is the sort of thing that never ought to happen! Have you ever known a spring to give sweet and bitter water simultaneously? Have you ever seen a fig-tree with a crop of olives, or seen figs growing on a vine? It is just as impossible for a spring to give fresh and salt water at the same time.

Does a spring of water bubble out first with fresh water and then with bitter water?
This is scary: You can tame a tiger, but you can’t tame a tongue—it’s never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth! My friends, this can’t go on. A spring doesn’t gush fresh water one day and brackish the next, does it? Apple trees don’t bear strawberries, do they? Raspberry bushes don’t bear apples, do they? You’re not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you?
