Hath He smitten him, as He smote those that smote him? Or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?

Like the striking by Him who has struck them, has He struck them? Or like the slaughter of His slain, have they been slain?
Has [the Lord] smitten [Israel] as He smote those who smote them? Or have [the Israelites] been slain as their slayers were slain?
¶ Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Did the Lord strike Israel as he struck the one who struck Israel? Was Israel killed like those killed by the Lord?
Did God strike Israel as he struck those who struck him? Was Israel killed as his killers were killed?
[Adonai] will not strike Isra’el, as he did others who struck Isra’el; he will not kill them, as he did the others.
I, the Lord, didn't punish and kill the people of Israel as fiercely as I punished and killed their enemies.
Hath he smitten him according to the smiting of those that smote him? Is he slain according to the slaughter of those slain by him?
Hath he struck him according to the stroke of him that struck him? or is he slain, as he killed them that were slain by him?
Israel was not hurt as badly as the enemy who tried to hurt it. Not as many of its people were killed as those who tried to kill them.
The Lord did not punish Israel's people as much as he punished their enemies. He did not kill them as much as he killed their enemies.
Has he struck Israel the way he struck those who struck them? Have they been killed the same way those who killed them were killed?
Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?
Has he struck them as he struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?

Will the Lord hurt Israel as he hurt others who hurt them? Will he kill them as he killed others?
Israel has not been punished by the Lord as severely as its enemies nor lost as many people.
Did the Lord strike Israel as He struck the one who struck Israel? Was he killed like those killed by Him?
The Lord has not hurt his people as he hurt their enemies. His people have not been killed like those who tried to kill them.
Has the Lord struck them down, just as he struck down those who struck them? Or have they been killed, just as their killers were killed?
¶ Has he been smitten as he who smote him? or has he been slain as those who slew him?
Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Hath he smitten him, as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that are slain by him?
Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has He struck them? Or like the slaughter of those of His who were killed, have they been killed?
Does he strike him as he struck down those who struck him? Or is he killed as those who killed him were killed?
Has God punished Israel as much as he has punished her enemies? No, for he has devastated her enemies, while he has punished Israel but a little, exiling her far from her own land as though blown away in a storm from the east.
Has God knocked them to the ground as he knocked down those who hit them? Oh, no. Were they killed as their killers were killed? Again, no. He was hard on them all right. The exile was a harsh sentence. He blew them away on a fierce blast of wind. But the good news is that through this experience Jacob’s guilt was taken away. The evidence that his sin is removed will be this: He will tear down the alien altars, take them apart stone by stone, And then crush the stones into gravel and clean out all the sex-and-religion shrines. For there’s nothing left of that pretentious grandeur. Nobody lives there anymore. It’s unlivable. But animals do just fine, browsing and bedding down. And it’s not a bad place to get firewood. Dry twigs and dead branches are plentiful. It’s the remains of a people with no sense of God. So, the God who made them Will have nothing to do with them. He who formed them will turn his back on them.
Has He struck them, as He struck those who struck them? Or like the slaughter of His slain, have they been slain?
Will Yahweh hurt Israel as he hurt others who hurt them? Will he kill them as he killed others?
Was he smitten as his smiter was smitten? Was he slain as his slayer was slain?
Like the striking of Him who has struck them, has He struck them? Or like the slaughter of His slain, have they been slain?

Has the Lord struck them down as he struck down those who struck him? Has he slaughtered them as their attackers were slaughtered?
The Lord has not hurt his people as he hurt their enemies; his people have not been killed like those who tried to kill them.
Has the Lord struck down Israel as he did their oppressors? Has Israel been killed like their enemies?
The Lord struck down those who struck down Israel. But he hasn’t punished Israel as much. The Lord killed those who killed many of his people. But he hasn’t punished his people as much.
Has the Lord struck her as he struck down those who struck her? Has she been killed as those were killed who killed her?
Has the Lord struck her as he struck down those who struck her? Has she been killed as those were killed who killed her?
Has He struck Israel as He struck those who struck him? Or has He been slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain by Him?
Has the Lord punished Israel as He punished those who went against Israel? Or have as many people of Israel been killed as their killers were killed?
Has the Lord struck Israel as he struck her enemies? Has he punished her as he punished them?
Has he struck them down as he struck down those who struck them? Or have they been killed as their killers were killed?

As the smiting of his smiter hath He smitten him? As the slaying of his slain doth He slay?
