For by it the elders obtained a good report.
For therein the elders had witness borne to them.
For by this [kind of] faith the men of old gained [divine] approval.
For by [faith—trust and holy fervor born of faith] the men of old had divine testimony borne to them and obtained a good report.
For by it the elders obtained a good report.
For by this our ancestors were approved.

The elders in the past were approved because they showed faith.
It was for this that Scripture attested the merit of the people of old.
It was their faith that made our ancestors pleasing to God.
For in [the power of] this the elders have obtained testimony.
For in this the elders were attested.
For by this the ancients obtained a testimony.
God was pleased with the people who lived a long time ago because they had faith like this.
It was because of their faith that God said good things about the people of long ago.
For by this faith the ancients were commended in Scripture.
For by it the people of old received their commendation.
For by it the people of old received their commendation.
Faith is the reason ·we remember [or God commended/approved] ·great people who lived in the past [the people of old; the ancients; our spiritual ancestors].
For by it our elders were well reported of.
God accepted our ancestors because of their faith.
It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God's approval.
For our ancestors won God’s approval by it.
People who lived in the past became famous because of faith.
By faith our ancestors won approval.
Now faith means putting our full confidence in the things we hope for, it means being certain of things we cannot see. It was this kind of faith that won their reputation for the saints of old. And it is after all only by faith that our minds accept as fact that the whole scheme of time and space was created by God’s command—that the world which we can see has come into being through principles which are invisible.
For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Men of God in days of old were famous for their faith.
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.
For by it the men of old obtained a good report.
For by it the men of the past were approved by God.
God accepted our ancestors because of their faith.
Because of it the ancients were well attested.
For by it the people of old gained approval.
For by it the men of old gained approval.
Indeed, it was because of it that our ancestors were commended.
Faith is the reason we remember great people who lived in the past.
For by it the people of old received God’s commendation.
That is what the people of long ago were praised for.
This is what the ancients were commended for.

God was pleased with the men who had faith who lived long ago.
Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
By it the elders were well reported of.

For by Emunah have our Zekenim been given approval.

There were people long ago believed God. He said they were good because they believed him.
And in this faith old men have gotten witnessing.
