And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke unto the sons of Heth, saying,

After a while he got up from the side of his ·wife’s body [L dead] and went to talk to the Hittites [C one of the many groups that made up the population of Canaan at the time, notable in that they were not Semitic as the others were]. He said,

¶ Then Abraham rose up from the sight of his corpse, and talked with the Hittites, saying,

Then Abraham left the side of his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites,

He left the place where his wife's body was lying, went to the Hittites, and said,
