And they gathered them together upon heaps, and the land stank.

So they piled them up in heaps, and the land was detestable and stank.
[The people] gathered them together in heaps, and the land was loathsome and stank.

The magicians tried with their secret arts to produce lice, but they couldn’t. There were lice on people and animals.

They began to rot, and the whole country began to stink.
The people swept the frogs together to make big heaps. There was a very bad smell over the whole country.

Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh, and Moses prayed to God about the frogs he had brought on Pharaoh. God responded to Moses’ prayer: The frogs died off—houses, courtyards, fields, all free of frogs. They piled the frogs in heaps. The country reeked of dead frogs.
So they gathered them together in heaps, and the land stank.
They were piled into countless heaps, and the land began to stink because of them.
Though the magicians did the same thing to produce gnats by their magic arts, they could not do so. The gnats were on human being and beast alike,

The Egyptians put them in piles, and the whole country began to stink.

When the magicians attempted the same with their secret arts to bring forth gnats, they could not. There were gnats on men and animals.
The Egyptians gathered up all the dead frogs and made great piles of them, and the land took on a rotten stench.
