Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

If a trumpet is blown in a city [warning of danger] will not the people tremble? If a disaster or misfortune occurs in a city has not the Lord caused it?
Shall a trumpet be blown in the city and the people not be alarmed and afraid? Shall misfortune or evil occur [as punishment] and the Lord has not caused it?

Isn't the whole city frightened when the trumpet signals an attack? Isn't the Lord the one who brings disaster on a city?

If people hear the warning blast of a trumpet, they shake with fear. If trouble comes to a city, the Lord caused it to happen.
Also, if the people in a city hear a trumpet's sound, they become very afraid. If bad trouble comes to a city, it means that the Lord has sent it.

Does the war trumpet sound in a city without making the people afraid? Does disaster strike a city unless the Lord sends it?
If a ram’s horn is blown in a city, aren’t people afraid? If a disaster occurs in a city, hasn’t the Lord done it?
When a trumpet blows a warning, the people tremble. When trouble comes to a city, the Lord has caused it.
And when an alarm sounds in the city, the people will tremble, won’t they? If there is trouble in a city, the Lord has brought it about, has he not?”

Or is a horn blown in a city and people are not afraid? Or does a disaster occur in the city and Yahweh has not done it?
The alarm has sounded—listen and fear! For I, the Lord, am sending disaster into your land.
Do two people walk hand in hand if they aren’t going to the same place? Does a lion roar in the forest if there’s no carcass to devour? Does a young lion growl with pleasure if he hasn’t caught his supper? Does a bird fall to the ground if it hasn’t been hit with a stone? Does a trap spring shut if nothing trips it? When the alarm goes off in the city, aren’t people alarmed? And when disaster strikes the city, doesn’t God stand behind it? The fact is, God, the Master, does nothing without first telling his prophets the whole story.
If the trumpet blasts in the city, are not the people frightened? If there is disaster against a city, is it not the Lord who has done it?
If a ram’s horn sounds an alarm in a city, won’t the people be alarmed? If there is a disaster in a city, hasn’t Yahweh done it?
Does the ram’s horn sound in a city without the people becoming frightened? Does disaster befall a city unless the Lord has caused it?
If a trumpet is blown in a city, will the people not tremble? If a disaster occurs in a city, has the Lord not brought it about?
If a trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble? If a calamity occurs in a city has not the Lord done it?
Are people not alarmed if a trumpet sounds in the city? If disaster strikes a city, can that occur without the approval of the Lord?
