No man who warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of this life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
No soldier in active service gets entangled in the [ordinary business] affairs of civilian life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve.
No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.

No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer.
Nobody who serves in the military gets tied up with civilian matters, so that they can please the one who recruited them.

Soldiers on duty don't work at outside jobs. They try only to please their commanding officer.

No one while serving-as-a-soldier entangles himself in the affairs of life, in order that he may please the one having enlisted him.
No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses; that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself.
A soldier wants to please his commanding officer, so he does not spend any time on activities that are not a part of his duty.
Any soldier who fights in a war does not become busy with other things. He only wants to fight well to make his captain happy.
No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the affairs of everyday life. If he does, he will not please the one who enlisted him.

Put up with your share of hardship as a loyal soldier in Christ’s army. Remember: 1) That no soldier on active service gets himself entangled in business, or he will not please his commanding officer. 2) A man who enters an athletic contest wins no prize unless he keeps the rules laid down. 3) Only the man who works on the land has the right to the first share of its produce. Consider these three illustrations of mine and the Lord will help you to understand all that I mean.

So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!—to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others. When the going gets rough, take it on the chin with the rest of us, the way Jesus did. A soldier on duty doesn’t get caught up in making deals at the marketplace. He concentrates on carrying out orders. An athlete who refuses to play by the rules will never get anywhere. It’s the diligent farmer who gets the produce. Think it over. God will make it all plain.
