Goliath looked at David with disgust. He saw that David was only a handsome, healthy boy.
As he came nearer, the Philistine looked carefully at David. He saw that David was no more than a healthy, handsome boy. That made him laugh at David.
When the Philistine got a good look at David, he despised him, because David was just a boy, nothing but a good-looking, red-headed boy.
And when the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance.

As the Philistine paced back and forth, his shield bearer in front of him, he noticed David. He took one look down on him and sneered—a mere boy, apple-cheeked and peach-fuzzed.
