⁸ The Lord God planted a ^(A)garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. ⁹ Out of the ground the Lord God caused ^(B)every tree to grow that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; ^(C)the tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁰ Lot raised his eyes and saw all the ^[a]vicinity of the ^(A)Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere—this was before the Lord ^(B)destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like ^(C)the garden of the Lord, ^(D)like the land of Egypt ^[b]going toward ^(E)Zoar.

¹⁶ I made the nations ^(A)quake from the sound of its fall when I made it ^(B)go down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the ^[a]well-watered trees of Eden, the choicest and best of ^(C)Lebanon, were ^(D)comforted in the earth beneath.
