So He brought me there; and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of (A)bronze, with a (B)thread of flax and a (C)measuring [a]rod in his hand; and he was standing in the gateway. And the man said to me, “(D)Son of man, (E)see with your eyes, hear with your ears, and [b]pay attention to all that I am going to show you; for you have been brought here in order to show it to you. (F)Declare to the house of Israel all that you see.”

Measurements Relating to the Temple

And behold, there was a (G)wall on the outside of the [c]temple all around, and in the man’s hand was a measuring rod of six [d]cubits, [e]each of which was a [f]cubit and a hand width. So he measured the thickness of the [g]wall, one rod; and the height, one rod. Then he went to the gate which faced (H)east, went up its steps, and measured the threshold of the gate, one rod [h]in width; and the other threshold was one rod [i]in width. The (I)guardroom was one rod long and one rod wide; and there were five cubits between the guardrooms. And the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate [j]facing inward was one rod. Then he measured the porch of the gate [k]facing inward, one rod. And he measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its side pillars, two cubits. And the porch of the gate was [l]faced inward. 10 The guardrooms of the gate toward the east numbered three on each side; the three of them had the same measurement. The side pillars also had the same measurement on each side. 11 And he measured the width of the [m]gateway, ten cubits, and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits. 12 There was a [n]barrier wall one cubit wide in front of the guardrooms on each side; and the guardrooms were six cubits square on each side. 13 And he measured the gate from the roof of the one guardroom to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits, from one door to the door opposite. 14 He made the side pillars sixty cubits high; the gate extended all around to the side pillar of the (J)courtyard. 15 And from the front of the entrance gate to the front of the inner porch of the gate was fifty cubits. 16 And there were [o](K)shuttered windows looking toward the guardrooms, and toward their side pillars within the gate all around, and likewise for the porches. And there were windows all around inside; and on each side pillar were (L)palm tree decorations.

17 Then he brought me into the (M)outer courtyard, and behold, there were (N)chambers and a stone pavement made for the courtyard all around; thirty chambers [p]faced the pavement. 18 And the pavement (that is, the lower pavement) was by the [q]side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates. 19 Then he measured the width from the front of the (O)lower gate to the front of the exterior of the inner courtyard, a (P)hundred cubits on the east and on the north.

20 And as for the (Q)gate of the outer courtyard which faced north, he measured its length and its width. 21 [r]It had three (R)guardrooms on each side; and its (S)side pillars and its porches [s]had the same measurement as the first gate. Its length was (T)fifty cubits, and the width (U)twenty-five cubits. 22 Its (V)windows, its porches, and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as the (W)gate which faced east; and [t]it was reached by seven (X)steps, and its [u]porch was in front of them. 23 The inner courtyard had a gate opposite the gate on the north as well as the gate on the east; and he measured a (Y)hundred cubits from gate to gate.

24 Then he led me toward the south, and behold, there was a (Z)gate toward the south; and he measured its (AA)side pillars and its porches according to [v]those same measurements. 25 [w]The gate and its porches had (AB)windows all around like [x]those other windows; the length was (AC)fifty cubits and the width, twenty-five cubits. 26 There were seven (AD)steps going up to it, and its porches were in front of them; and it had (AE)palm tree decorations on its side pillars, one on each side. 27 The inner courtyard had a gate toward the (AF)south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a (AG)hundred cubits.

28 Then he brought me to the inner courtyard by the south gate; and he measured the south gate (AH)according to those same measurements. 29 Its (AI)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its (AJ)porches were according to those same measurements. And [y]the gate and its porches had (AK)windows all around; it was (AL)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 30 There were (AM)porches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide. 31 And its porches were toward the outer courtyard; and (AN)palm tree decorations were on its side pillars, and its stairway had eight (AO)steps.

32 Then he brought me into the (AP)inner courtyard toward the east. And he measured the gate (AQ)according to those same measurements. 33 Its (AR)guardrooms also, its side pillars, and its porches were according to those same measurements. And [z]the gate and its porches had (AS)windows all around; it was (AT)fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its (AU)porches were toward the outer courtyard; and (AV)palm tree decorations were on its side pillars, on each side, and its stairway had eight (AW)steps.

35 Then he brought me to the (AX)north gate; and he measured it according to those same measurements, 36 with its (AY)guardrooms, its side pillars, and its (AZ)porches. And [aa]the gate had (BA)windows all around; the length was (BB)fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits. 37 And its side pillars were toward the outer courtyard; and (BC)palm tree decorations were on its side pillars, on each side, and its stairway had eight (BD)steps.

38 A (BE)chamber with its doorway was by the side pillars at the gates; there they (BF)rinse the burnt offering. 39 And in the porch of the gate were two (BG)tables on each side, on which to slaughter the (BH)burnt offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering. 40 On the outer [ab]side, [ac]as one went up to the [ad]gateway toward the north, were two tables; and on the other [ae]side of the porch of the gate were two tables. 41 Four (BI)tables were on each side [af]next to the gate; eight tables on which they slaughter sacrifices. 42 For the burnt offering there were four (BJ)tables of (BK)cut stone, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high, on which they set the utensils with which they slaughter the (BL)burnt offering and the sacrifice. 43 And the double [ag]hooks, [ah]one hand width in length, were installed [ai]in the house all around; and on the tables was the flesh of the offering.

44 From the outside to the (BM)inner gate were [aj](BN)chambers for the (BO)singers in the inner courtyard, one of which was at the [ak]side of the north gate, with [al]its front toward the south, and one at the [am]side of the [an]south gate facing north. 45 Then he said to me, “This is the (BP)chamber which faces south, intended for the priests who [ao]are (BQ)responsible for the [ap]temple; 46 but the (BR)chamber which faces north is for the priests who [aq]are (BS)responsible for the altar. They are the (BT)sons of Zadok, who from the sons of Levi (BU)come near to the Lord to serve Him.” 47 He measured the courtyard, a perfect square, a (BV)hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide; and the altar was in front of the [ar]temple.

48 Then he brought me to the (BW)porch of the [as]temple and measured each side pillar of the porch, five cubits on each side; and the width of the gate was three cubits on each side. 49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the width eleven cubits; and at the (BX)stairway by which it was ascended were (BY)columns belonging to the side pillars, one on each side.

The Inner Temple

41 Then he (BZ)brought me to the (CA)sanctuary, and he measured the (CB)side pillars: six [at]cubits wide on each side was the width of the [au]side pillar. The width of the entrance was ten cubits and the [av]sides of the entrance were five cubits on each side. He also measured [aw]the length of the sanctuary, (CC)forty cubits, and the width, (CD)twenty cubits. Then he went [ax](CE)inside and measured each (CF)side pillar of the doorway, two cubits, and the doorway, six cubits high; and the width of the doorway, seven cubits. And he measured its length, (CG)twenty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits, before the (CH)sanctuary; and he said to me, “This is the (CI)Most Holy Place.”

Then he measured the wall of the [ay]temple, six cubits; and the width of the (CJ)side chambers, four cubits, all around the house on every side. (CK)The side chambers were in three stories, [az]one above another, and [ba]thirty in each story; and [bb]the side chambers (CL)extended to the wall which stood on [bc]their inward side all around, so that they could be attached, but not be attached to the wall of the temple itself. And the side chambers surrounding the temple were wider at each successive story. Because the (CM)structure surrounding the temple went upward by stages on all sides of the temple, for that reason the width of the temple increased as it went higher; and so one went up from the lowest story to the highest by way of the [bd]second story. I saw also that the house had a raised [be]platform all around; the foundations of the side chambers were a full [bf]rod of (CN)six [bg]long cubits in height. The [bh]thickness of the outer wall of the side chambers was five cubits. But the (CO)free space between the side chambers belonging to the temple 10 and the outer (CP)chambers was twenty cubits in width around the temple on every side. 11 The [bi]doorways of the side [bj]chambers toward the (CQ)free space consisted of one doorway toward the north, and another doorway toward the south; and the width of the (CR)free space was five cubits all around.

12 The (CS)building that was in front of the (CT)separate area at the side toward the west was seventy cubits wide; and the wall of the building was five cubits [bk]thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.

13 Then he measured the temple, a (CU)hundred cubits long; the (CV)separate area with the (CW)building and its walls were also a (CX)hundred cubits long. 14 Also the width of the front of the temple and that of the separate [bl]areas along the east side totaled a hundred cubits.

15 And he measured the length of the (CY)building [bm]along the front of the (CZ)separate area behind it, with a [bn](DA)gallery on each side, a hundred cubits; he also measured the inner sanctuary and the porches of the courtyard. 16 The (DB)thresholds, the [bo](DC)latticed windows, and the [bp](DD)galleries all around their (DE)three stories, opposite the threshold, were (DF)paneled with wood all around, and from the ground to the windows (but the windows were covered), 17 over the entrance, and to the inner house, and on the outside, and on all the wall all around inside and outside, by measurement. 18 It was [bq]carved with (DG)cherubim and (DH)palm trees; and a palm tree was between cherub and cherub, and every cherub had two faces: 19 a (DI)human face toward the palm tree on one side and a young (DJ)lion’s face toward the palm tree on the other side; they were [br]carved on all the house all around. 20 From the ground to above the entrance (DK)cherubim and (DL)palm trees were [bs]carved, as well as on the wall of the sanctuary.

21 The (DM)doorposts of the (DN)sanctuary were square; as for the front of the inner [bt]sanctuary, the appearance of one doorpost was like that of the other. 22 The (DO)altar was of wood, three cubits high, and its length two cubits; its corners, its [bu]base, and its [bv]sides were of wood. And he said to me, “This is the (DP)table that is before the Lord.” 23 The (DQ)sanctuary and the inner [bw](DR)sanctuary each had a double (DS)door. 24 Each of the doors had two leaves, two [bx](DT)swinging leaves; two leaves for one door and two leaves for the other. 25 Also there were [by]carved on them, on the doors of the main room, (DU)cherubim and (DV)palm trees like those [bz]carved on the walls; and there was a [ca](DW)threshold of wood on the front of the porch outside. 26 And there were [cb](DX)latticed windows and (DY)palm trees on one side and on the other, on the sides of the (DZ)porch; the same were on the (EA)side chambers of the house and the [cc]thresholds.

Chambers of the Temple

42 Then he (EB)brought me out into the (EC)outer courtyard, the way (ED)toward the north; and he brought me to the (EE)chamber which was opposite the (EF)separate area and opposite the (EG)building toward the north. Along the length, which was a (EH)hundred [cd]cubits, was the north door; the width was fifty cubits. Opposite the (EI)twenty cubits which belonged to the inner courtyard, and opposite the (EJ)stone pavement which belonged to the outer courtyard, was [ce](EK)gallery corresponding to [cf]gallery in three stories. In front of the (EL)chambers was an inner passage ten cubits wide, a way of one hundred cubits; and their openings were on the north. Now the upper chambers were [cg]smaller because the [ch](EM)galleries took more space away from them than from the lower and middle ones in the building. For they were in (EN)three stories and had no pillars like the pillars of the courtyards; for that reason the upper chambers were [ci]set back from the ground upward, more than the lower and middle ones. As for the (EO)outer wall by the side of the chambers, toward the outer courtyard facing the chambers, its length was fifty cubits. For the length of the chambers which were in the outer courtyard was fifty cubits; and behold, the length of those facing the main room was a (EP)hundred cubits. And below these chambers was the (EQ)entrance on the east side, as one enters them from the outer courtyard.

10 In the [cj]thickness of the (ER)wall of the courtyard toward the east, facing the (ES)separate area and facing the building, there were (ET)chambers. 11 And the (EU)way in front of them was like the appearance of the chambers which were on the north; according to their length, so was their width, and all their exits were according to their building plans and openings. 12 Corresponding to the openings of the chambers which were toward the south was an opening at the head of the way, the way in front of the (EV)wall toward the east, as one enters them.

13 Then he said to me, “The north chambers and the south chambers, which are opposite the (EW)separate area, they are the (EX)holy chambers where the priests who are (EY)near to the Lord shall eat the (EZ)most holy things. There they shall set the most holy things, the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering; for the place is holy. 14 When the priests enter, they shall not go out into the outer courtyard from the sanctuary [ck]without (FA)laying their (FB)garments there in which they minister, for they are holy. They shall put on other garments; then they shall approach that which is for the people.”

15 Now when he had finished measuring the inner house, he brought me out by way of the (FC)gate which faced east, and measured it all around. 16 He measured on the east side with the measuring [cl]rod: five hundred rods by the (FD)measuring rod. 17 He measured on the north side: five hundred rods by the measuring rod. 18 On the south side he measured five hundred rods with the measuring rod. 19 He turned to the west side and measured five hundred rods with the measuring rod. 20 He measured it [cm]on the four sides; it had a (FE)wall all around, the (FF)length five hundred rods and the (FG)width five hundred, to (FH)divide between the holy and the [cn]common.

He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze;(A) he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod(B) in his hand. The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you,(C) for that is why you have been brought here. Tell(D) the people of Israel everything you see.(E)

The East Gate to the Outer Court

I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area. The length of the measuring rod in the man’s hand was six long cubits,[a] each of which was a cubit and a handbreadth. He measured(F) the wall; it was one measuring rod thick and one rod high.

Then he went to the east gate.(G) He climbed its steps and measured the threshold of the gate; it was one rod deep. The alcoves(H) for the guards were one rod long and one rod wide, and the projecting walls between the alcoves were five cubits[b] thick. And the threshold of the gate next to the portico facing the temple was one rod deep.

Then he measured the portico of the gateway; it[c] was eight cubits[d] deep and its jambs were two cubits[e] thick. The portico of the gateway faced the temple.

10 Inside the east gate were three alcoves on each side; the three had the same measurements, and the faces of the projecting walls on each side had the same measurements. 11 Then he measured the width of the entrance of the gateway; it was ten cubits and its length was thirteen cubits.[f] 12 In front of each alcove was a wall one cubit high, and the alcoves were six cubits square. 13 Then he measured the gateway from the top of the rear wall of one alcove to the top of the opposite one; the distance was twenty-five cubits[g] from one parapet opening to the opposite one. 14 He measured along the faces of the projecting walls all around the inside of the gateway—sixty cubits.[h] The measurement was up to the portico[i] facing the courtyard.[j](I) 15 The distance from the entrance of the gateway to the far end of its portico was fifty cubits.[k] 16 The alcoves and the projecting walls inside the gateway were surmounted by narrow parapet openings all around, as was the portico; the openings all around faced inward. The faces of the projecting walls were decorated with palm trees.(J)

The Outer Court

17 Then he brought me into the outer court.(K) There I saw some rooms and a pavement that had been constructed all around the court; there were thirty rooms(L) along the pavement.(M) 18 It abutted the sides of the gateways and was as wide as they were long; this was the lower pavement. 19 Then he measured the distance from the inside of the lower gateway to the outside of the inner court;(N) it was a hundred cubits[l](O) on the east side as well as on the north.

The North Gate

20 Then he measured the length and width of the north gate, leading into the outer court. 21 Its alcoves(P)—three on each side—its projecting walls and its portico(Q) had the same measurements as those of the first gateway. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 22 Its openings, its portico(R) and its palm tree decorations had the same measurements as those of the gate facing east. Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them.(S) 23 There was a gate to the inner court facing the north gate, just as there was on the east. He measured from one gate to the opposite one; it was a hundred cubits.(T)

The South Gate

24 Then he led me to the south side and I saw the south gate. He measured its jambs and its portico, and they had the same measurements(U) as the others. 25 The gateway and its portico had narrow openings all around, like the openings of the others. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(V) 26 Seven steps led up to it, with its portico opposite them; it had palm tree decorations on the faces of the projecting walls on each side.(W) 27 The inner court(X) also had a gate facing south, and he measured from this gate to the outer gate on the south side; it was a hundred cubits.(Y)

The Gates to the Inner Court

28 Then he brought me into the inner court through the south gate, and he measured the south gate; it had the same measurements(Z) as the others. 29 Its alcoves,(AA) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.(AB) 30 (The porticoes(AC) of the gateways around the inner court were twenty-five cubits wide and five cubits deep.) 31 Its portico(AD) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated its jambs, and eight steps led up to it.(AE)

32 Then he brought me to the inner court on the east side, and he measured the gateway; it had the same measurements(AF) as the others. 33 Its alcoves,(AG) its projecting walls and its portico had the same measurements as the others. The gateway and its portico had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 34 Its portico(AH) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.

35 Then he brought me to the north gate(AI) and measured it. It had the same measurements(AJ) as the others, 36 as did its alcoves,(AK) its projecting walls and its portico, and it had openings all around. It was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide. 37 Its portico[m](AL) faced the outer court; palm trees decorated the jambs on either side, and eight steps led up to it.(AM)

The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices

38 A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings(AN) were washed. 39 In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings,(AO) sin offerings[n](AP) and guilt offerings(AQ) were slaughtered.(AR) 40 By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables. 41 So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. 42 There were also four tables of dressed stone(AS) for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high.[o] On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.(AT) 43 And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth[p] long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.

The Rooms for the Priests

44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one[q] at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south[r] gate and facing north. 45 He said to me, “The room facing south is for the priests who guard the temple,(AU) 46 and the room facing north(AV) is for the priests who guard the altar.(AW) These are the sons of Zadok,(AX) who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.(AY)

47 Then he measured the court: It was square—a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.(AZ)

The New Temple

48 He brought me to the portico of the temple(BA) and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits[s] and its projecting walls were[t] three cubits[u] wide on either side. 49 The portico(BB) was twenty cubits[v] wide, and twelve[w] cubits[x] from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs,[y] and there were pillars(BC) on each side of the jambs.

41 Then the man brought me to the main hall(BD) and measured the jambs; the width of the jambs was six cubits[z] on each side.[aa] The entrance was ten cubits[ab] wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were five cubits[ac] wide. He also measured the main hall; it was forty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.[ad](BE)

Then he went into the inner sanctuary and measured the jambs of the entrance; each was two cubits[ae] wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were seven cubits[af] wide. And he measured the length of the inner sanctuary; it was twenty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits across the end of the main hall.(BF) He said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.(BG)

Then he measured the wall of the temple; it was six cubits thick, and each side room around the temple was four cubits[ag] wide. The side rooms were on three levels, one above another, thirty(BH) on each level. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports were not inserted into the wall of the temple.(BI) The side rooms all around the temple were wider at each successive level. The structure surrounding the temple was built in ascending stages, so that the rooms widened as one went upward. A stairway(BJ) went up from the lowest floor to the top floor through the middle floor.

I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the length of the rod, six long cubits. The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick. The open area between the side rooms of the temple 10 and the priests’ rooms was twenty cubits wide all around the temple. 11 There were entrances to the side rooms from the open area, one on the north and another on the south; and the base adjoining the open area was five cubits wide all around.

12 The building facing the temple courtyard on the west side was seventy cubits[ah] wide. The wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.[ai]

13 Then he measured the temple; it was a hundred cubits[aj] long, and the temple courtyard and the building with its walls were also a hundred cubits long. 14 The width of the temple courtyard on the east, including the front of the temple, was a hundred cubits.(BK)

15 Then he measured the length of the building facing the courtyard at the rear of the temple, including its galleries(BL) on each side; it was a hundred cubits.

The main hall, the inner sanctuary and the portico facing the court, 16 as well as the thresholds and the narrow windows(BM) and galleries around the three of them—everything beyond and including the threshold was covered with wood. The floor, the wall up to the windows, and the windows were covered.(BN) 17 In the space above the outside of the entrance to the inner sanctuary and on the walls at regular intervals all around the inner and outer sanctuary 18 were carved(BO) cherubim(BP) and palm trees.(BQ) Palm trees alternated with cherubim. Each cherub had two faces:(BR) 19 the face of a human being toward the palm tree on one side and the face of a lion toward the palm tree on the other. They were carved all around the whole temple.(BS) 20 From the floor to the area above the entrance, cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall of the main hall.

21 The main hall(BT) had a rectangular doorframe, and the one at the front of the Most Holy Place was similar. 22 There was a wooden altar(BU) three cubits[ak] high and two cubits square[al]; its corners, its base[am] and its sides were of wood. The man said to me, “This is the table(BV) that is before the Lord.” 23 Both the main hall(BW) and the Most Holy Place had double doors.(BX) 24 Each door had two leaves—two hinged leaves(BY) for each door. 25 And on the doors of the main hall were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls, and there was a wooden overhang on the front of the portico. 26 On the sidewalls of the portico were narrow windows with palm trees carved on each side. The side rooms of the temple also had overhangs.(BZ)

The Rooms for the Priests

42 Then the man led me northward into the outer court and brought me to the rooms(CA) opposite the temple courtyard(CB) and opposite the outer wall on the north side.(CC) The building whose door faced north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.[an] Both in the section twenty cubits[ao] from the inner court and in the section opposite the pavement of the outer court, gallery(CD) faced gallery at the three levels.(CE) In front of the rooms was an inner passageway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits[ap] long.[aq] Their doors were on the north.(CF) Now the upper rooms were narrower, for the galleries took more space from them than from the rooms on the lower and middle floors of the building. The rooms on the top floor had no pillars, as the courts had; so they were smaller in floor space than those on the lower and middle floors. There was an outer wall parallel to the rooms and the outer court; it extended in front of the rooms for fifty cubits. While the row of rooms on the side next to the outer court was fifty cubits long, the row on the side nearest the sanctuary was a hundred cubits long. The lower rooms had an entrance(CG) on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.

10 On the south side[ar] along the length of the wall of the outer court, adjoining the temple courtyard(CH) and opposite the outer wall, were rooms(CI) 11 with a passageway in front of them. These were like the rooms on the north; they had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions. Similar to the doorways on the north 12 were the doorways of the rooms on the south. There was a doorway at the beginning of the passageway that was parallel to the corresponding wall extending eastward, by which one enters the rooms.

13 Then he said to me, “The north(CJ) and south rooms(CK) facing the temple courtyard(CL) are the priests’ rooms, where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings—the grain offerings,(CM) the sin offerings[as](CN) and the guilt offerings(CO)—for the place is holy.(CP) 14 Once the priests enter the holy precincts, they are not to go into the outer court until they leave behind the garments(CQ) in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they go near the places that are for the people.(CR)

15 When he had finished measuring what was inside the temple area, he led me out by the east gate(CS) and measured the area all around: 16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was five hundred cubits.[at][au] 17 He measured the north side; it was five hundred cubits[av] by the measuring rod. 18 He measured the south side; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 19 Then he turned to the west side and measured; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 20 So he measured(CT) the area(CU) on all four sides. It had a wall around it,(CV) five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide,(CW) to separate the holy from the common.(CX)

And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.

And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.

And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

Then came he unto the gate which looketh toward the east, and went up the stairs thereof, and measured the threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad; and the other threshold of the gate, which was one reed broad.

And every little chamber was one reed long, and one reed broad; and between the little chambers were five cubits; and the threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate within was one reed.

He measured also the porch of the gate within, one reed.

Then measured he the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and the posts thereof, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was inward.

10 And the little chambers of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side; they three were of one measure: and the posts had one measure on this side and on that side.

11 And he measured the breadth of the entry of the gate, ten cubits; and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.

12 The space also before the little chambers was one cubit on this side, and the space was one cubit on that side: and the little chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.

13 He measured then the gate from the roof of one little chamber to the roof of another: the breadth was five and twenty cubits, door against door.

14 He made also posts of threescore cubits, even unto the post of the court round about the gate.

15 And from the face of the gate of the entrance unto the face of the porch of the inner gate were fifty cubits.

16 And there were narrow windows to the little chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the arches: and windows were round about inward: and upon each post were palm trees.

17 Then brought he me into the outward court, and, lo, there were chambers, and a pavement made for the court round about: thirty chambers were upon the pavement.

18 And the pavement by the side of the gates over against the length of the gates was the lower pavement.

19 Then he measured the breadth from the forefront of the lower gate unto the forefront of the inner court without, an hundred cubits eastward and northward.

20 And the gate of the outward court that looked toward the north, he measured the length thereof, and the breadth thereof.

21 And the little chambers thereof were three on this side and three on that side; and the posts thereof and the arches thereof were after the measure of the first gate: the length thereof was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.

22 And their windows, and their arches, and their palm trees, were after the measure of the gate that looketh toward the east; and they went up unto it by seven steps; and the arches thereof were before them.

23 And the gate of the inner court was over against the gate toward the north, and toward the east; and he measured from gate to gate an hundred cubits.

24 After that he brought me toward the south, and behold a gate toward the south: and he measured the posts thereof and the arches thereof according to these measures.

25 And there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about, like those windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.

26 And there were seven steps to go up to it, and the arches thereof were before them: and it had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, upon the posts thereof.

27 And there was a gate in the inner court toward the south: and he measured from gate to gate toward the south an hundred cubits.

28 And he brought me to the inner court by the south gate: and he measured the south gate according to these measures;

29 And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, according to these measures: and there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.

30 And the arches round about were five and twenty cubits long, and five cubits broad.

31 And the arches thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof: and the going up to it had eight steps.

32 And he brought me into the inner court toward the east: and he measured the gate according to these measures.

33 And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, were according to these measures: and there were windows therein and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.

34 And the arches thereof were toward the outward court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.

35 And he brought me to the north gate, and measured it according to these measures;

36 The little chambers thereof, the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, and the windows to it round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.

37 And the posts thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.

38 And the chambers and the entries thereof were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.

39 And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering.

40 And at the side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables.

41 Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices.

42 And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.

43 And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.

44 And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.

45 And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.

46 And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the Lord to minister unto him.

47 So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.

48 And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.

49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits, and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.

41 Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle.

And the breadth of the door was ten cubits; and the sides of the door were five cubits on the one side, and five cubits on the other side: and he measured the length thereof, forty cubits: and the breadth, twenty cubits.

Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits.

So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.

After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side.

And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.

And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.

I saw also the height of the house round about: the foundations of the side chambers were a full reed of six great cubits.

The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.

10 And between the chambers was the wideness of twenty cubits round about the house on every side.

11 And the doors of the side chambers were toward the place that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about.

12 Now the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof ninety cubits.

13 So he measured the house, an hundred cubits long; and the separate place, and the building, with the walls thereof, an hundred cubits long;

14 Also the breadth of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the east, an hundred cubits.

15 And he measured the length of the building over against the separate place which was behind it, and the galleries thereof on the one side and on the other side, an hundred cubits, with the inner temple, and the porches of the court;

16 The door posts, and the narrow windows, and the galleries round about on their three stories, over against the door, cieled with wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered;

17 To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure.

18 And it was made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree was between a cherub and a cherub; and every cherub had two faces;

19 So that the face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about.

20 From the ground unto above the door were cherubims and palm trees made, and on the wall of the temple.

21 The posts of the temple were squared, and the face of the sanctuary; the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other.

22 The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the Lord.

23 And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors.

24 And the doors had two leaves apiece, two turning leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other door.

25 And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as were made upon the walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the porch without.

26 And there were narrow windows and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch, and upon the side chambers of the house, and thick planks.

42 Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.

Before the length of an hundred cubits was the north door, and the breadth was fifty cubits.

Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and over against the pavement which was for the utter court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.

And before the chambers was a walk to ten cubits breadth inward, a way of one cubit; and their doors toward the north.

Now the upper chambers were shorter: for the galleries were higher than these, than the lower, and than the middlemost of the building.

For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground.

And the wall that was without over against the chambers, toward the utter court on the forepart of the chambers, the length thereof was fifty cubits.

For the length of the chambers that were in the utter court was fifty cubits: and, lo, before the temple were an hundred cubits.

And from under these chambers was the entry on the east side, as one goeth into them from the utter court.

10 The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, over against the separate place, and over against the building.

11 And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers which were toward the north, as long as they, and as broad as they: and all their goings out were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors.

12 And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the south was a door in the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one entereth into them.

13 Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the Lord shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy.

14 When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.

15 Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner house, he brought me forth toward the gate whose prospect is toward the east, and measured it round about.

16 He measured the east side with the measuring reed, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.

17 He measured the north side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.

18 He measured the south side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed.

19 He turned about to the west side, and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.

20 He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.

15 The one who spoke with me had a [a]gold measuring (A)rod to measure the city, its (B)gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the [b]rod, [c]twelve thousand stadia; its length, width, and height are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, [d]144 cubits, by (C)human [e]measurements, which are also (D)angelic measurements. 18 The material of the wall was (E)jasper; and the city was (F)pure gold, like [f]clear (G)glass. 19 (H)The foundation stones of the city wall were decorated with every kind of precious stone. 22 I saw (P)no [g]temple in it, for the (Q)Lord God the Almighty and the (R)Lamb are its [h]temple. 23 And the city (S)has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for (T)the glory of God has illuminated it, and its lamp is the (U)Lamb. 24 (V)The nations will walk by its light, and the (W)kings of the earth [i]will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for (X)there will be no night there) (Y)its gates (Z)will never be closed; 26 and (AA)they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and (AB)nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those [j]whose names are (AC)written in the Lamb’s book of life.

15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod(A) of gold to measure the city, its gates(B) and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[a] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human(C) measurement, and it was 144 cubits[b] thick.[c] 18 The wall was made of jasper,(D) and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass.(E) 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone.(F) The first foundation was jasper,(G) the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby,(H) the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[d] 21 The twelve gates(I) were twelve pearls,(J) each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.(K)

22 I did not see a temple(L) in the city, because the Lord God Almighty(M) and the Lamb(N) are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God(O) gives it light,(P) and the Lamb(Q) is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.(R) 25 On no day will its gates(S) ever be shut,(T) for there will be no night there.(U) 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it.(V) 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful,(W) but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.(X)

15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.

27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
