³ His sons, however, did not walk in his ways but turned aside after dishonest gain, and they ^(A)took bribes and perverted justice.

⁴ Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at ^(B)Ramah; ⁵ and they said to him, “Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now ^(C)appoint us a king to judge us like all the nations.”

²⁸ Please forgive ^(A)the offense of your slave; for ^(B)the Lord will certainly make for my lord an ^[a]enduring house, because my lord is ^(C)fighting the battles of the Lord, and ^(D)evil will not be found in you all your days.

¹¹ even ^(A)from the day that I appointed judges over My people Israel; and ^(B)I will give you rest from all your enemies. The Lord also declares to you that ^(C)the Lord will make a house for you.

²⁷ For You, Lord of armies, God of Israel, have ^[a]given a revelation to Your servant, saying, ‘^(A)I will build you a house’; therefore Your servant has found ^[b]courage to pray this prayer to You.

³⁸ Then it shall be, that if you listen to all that I command you and walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight by keeping My statutes and My commandments, as My servant David did, then ^(A)I will be with you and ^(B)build you an enduring house as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.
