About Biblían 1981
The translation from 1912 was considered outdated in the 1950s and a committee of translators was convened in the early 1960s. Things move slowly and it was not until 1981 that the tenth version of the Icelandic Bible was published. The Old Testament was slightly revised from the 1912 translation, in that ‘Jahve’ was changed to ‘Drottinn’ (Lord). The four gospels and the Book of Acts were published in a new translation, while the Epistles and Revelation were revised from the translation in 1912.
The inclusion of the apocryphal books with the Bible was considered, but because the translation that had been done in 1931 had too many shortcomings it was postponed.
