²⁸ They also ^(A)followed ^[a]Baal-peor,
And ate ^(B)sacrifices offered to the dead.
²⁹ So they ^(C)provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And a plague broke out among them.

¹⁰ I found Israel like ^(A)grapes in the wilderness;
I saw your forefathers as the ^(B)earliest fruit on the fig tree in its first season.
But they came to ^(C)Baal-peor and devoted themselves to ^[a](D)shame,
And they became as ^(E)detestable as that which they loved.
