New International Version

²⁵A foolish son brings grief to his father
and bitterness to the mother who bore him.^(A)

¹⁵The ^(A)rod and a rebuke give wisdom,
But a child ^[a]who gets his own way ^(B)brings shame to his mother.

¹⁵A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom,
