⁵ So he sent messengers to ^(A)Balaam the son of Beor, at ^(B)Pethor, which is near the Euphrates River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying, “Behold, a people came out of Egypt; behold, they have covered the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.

⁷ So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian left with the fees for ^(A)divination in their hands; and they came to Balaam and ^[a]repeated Balak’s words to him.

^4 (A)because they did not meet you with ^[a]food and water on the way when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you ^(B)Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of ^[b]Mesopotamia, to curse you.

² because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, but ^(A)hired Balaam against them to curse them. However, ^(B)our God turned the curse into a blessing.

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone ^(A)the way of Cain, and for pay ^[a]they have given themselves up to ^(B)the error of Balaam, and ^(C)perished in the rebellion of Korah.

¹⁴ But ^(A)I have a few things against you, because you have some there who hold the ^(B)teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a ^[a]stumbling block before the sons of Israel, ^(C)to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.
