Then Moses commanded the sons of Israel in accordance with the [a]word of the Lord, saying, “The tribe of the sons of Joseph is right in its statements. (A)This is [b]what the Lord has commanded regarding the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, ‘Let them marry [c]whomever they wish; only they must marry within the family of the tribe of their father.’ So (B)no inheritance of the sons of Israel will [d]be transferred from tribe to tribe, for the sons of Israel shall each [e]retain possession of the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

Then at the Lord’s command Moses gave this order to the Israelites: “What the tribe of the descendants of Joseph is saying is right. This is what the Lord commands for Zelophehad’s daughters: They may marry anyone they please as long as they marry within their father’s tribal clan. No inheritance(A) in Israel is to pass from one tribe to another, for every Israelite shall keep the tribal inheritance of their ancestors.
