²¹ And as they were eating, He said, “^(A)Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.” ²² Being deeply grieved, they began saying to Him, each one: “Surely it is not I, Lord?” ²³ And He answered, “^(B)He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me. ²⁴ The Son of Man is going away ^(C)just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! ^(D)It would have been good ^[a]for that man if he had not been born.”

¹⁸ And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will ^[a]betray Me—^[b]one who is eating with Me.” ¹⁹ They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” ²⁰ But He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, the one who dips bread with Me in the bowl. ²¹ For the Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man ^[c]by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good ^[d]for that man if he had not been born.”

^18 (A)I am not speaking about all of you. I know the ones whom I have ^(B)chosen; but this is happening ^(C)so that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘^(D)He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

²¹ When Jesus had said these things, He ^(A)became troubled in spirit, and ^[a]testified and said, “Truly, truly I say to you that ^(B)one of you will ^[b]betray Me.” ²² The disciples began looking at one another, ^(C)at a loss to know of which one He was speaking.
