Jesus Foretells His Death

^21 (A)From that time ^[a]Jesus began to ^[b]point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to ^(B)suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.

^20 (A)The Jews then said, “It took ^(B)forty-six years to build this ^[a]temple, and yet You will raise it up in three days?” ²¹ But He was speaking about ^(C)the ^[b]temple of His body. ²² So when He was raised from the dead, His ^(D)disciples ^(E)remembered that He said this; and they believed ^(F)the Scripture and the word which Jesus had spoken.

²³ Now when He was in Jerusalem at ^(G)the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name as they ^(H)observed His signs which He was doing. ²⁴ But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, because ^(I)He knew all people, ²⁵ and because He did not need anyone to testify about mankind, ^(J)for He Himself knew what was in mankind.

^24 [a]But ^(A)God raised Him from the dead, putting an end to the ^[b]agony of death, since it ^(B)was impossible for Him to be held ^[c]in its power.
