^21 (A)But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Me on the table. ²² For indeed, the Son of Man is going ^(B)as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” ²³ And they began to argue among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.

²¹ And as they were eating, He said, “^(A)Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.” ²² And being deeply grieved, they ^[a]each one began to say to Him, “Surely not I, Lord?” ²³ And He answered and said, “^(B)He who dipped his hand with Me in the bowl is the one who will betray Me. ²⁴ The Son of Man is going, ^(C)just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! ^(D)It would have been good ^[b]for that man if he had not been born.”

¹⁸ And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will ^[a]betray Me—the one who is eating with Me.” ¹⁹ They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” ²⁰ And He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, the one who dips with Me in the bowl. ²¹ For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man ^[b]by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good ^[c]for that man if he had not been born.”

^18 (A)I do not speak about all of you. I know the ones I have ^(B)chosen; but ^(C)that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘^(D)He who eats My bread has lifted up his heel against Me.’

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

²¹ When Jesus had said these things, He ^(A)became troubled in spirit, and bore witness and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, that ^(B)one of you will ^[a]betray Me.” ²² The disciples began looking at one another, ^(C)perplexed about whom He *spoke.

²⁶ Jesus *answered, “He is the one for whom I shall dip the piece of bread and give it to him.” So when He had dipped the piece of bread, He *took and *gave it to Judas, ^(A)the son of Simon Iscariot.
