Jephthah’s Tragic Vow

²⁹ Now ^(A)the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh; then he passed through Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he went on to the sons of Ammon.

⁵ Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to ^(A)Mizpah and ^(B)I will pray to the Lord for you.” ⁶ So they gathered to Mizpah, and drew water and ^(C)poured it out before the Lord, and ^(D)fasted on that day and said there, “^(E)We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the sons of Israel at Mizpah.
