²⁶ Then Joshua made them take an oath at that time, saying, “^(A)Cursed before the Lord is the man who rises up and builds this city Jericho; with the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

Saul’s Foolish Order

²⁴ Now the men of Israel were hard-pressed on that day, for Saul had ^(A)put the people under oath, saying, “Cursed be the man who eats food ^[a]before evening, and before I have avenged myself on my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

²⁹ are joining with their kinsmen, their nobles, and are ^[a](A)taking on themselves a curse and an oath to walk in God’s Law, which was given through Moses, God’s servant, and to keep and to ^[b]comply with all the commandments of ^[c]God our Lord, and His ordinances and statutes;
