³However, when the people of Gibeon^(A) heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,^(B)

⁷But the men of Israel said to the ^(A)Hivites, “Perhaps you are living ^[a]within our land; ^(B)how then are we to make a covenant with you?”

⁷The Israelites said to the Hivites,^(A) “But perhaps you live near us, so how can we make a treaty^(B) with you?”
