¹³ Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and ^(A)sat down on the judgment seat at a place called ^[a]The Pavement—but ^(B)in ^[b]Hebrew, Gabbatha.

²¹ On an appointed day, after putting on his royal apparel, Herod took his seat on the ^[a]rostrum and began delivering an address to them.

¹² But while Gallio was ^(A)proconsul of ^(B)Achaia, ^(C)the Jews rose up together against Paul and brought him before ^(D)the ^[a]judgment seat,

¹⁶ And he drove them away from ^(A)the ^[a]judgment seat. ¹⁷ But they all took hold of ^(B)Sosthenes, ^(C)the leader of the synagogue, and began beating him in front of ^(D)the judgment seat. And yet Gallio was not concerned about any of these things.

¹⁸ Now Paul, when he had remained many days longer, ^(E)took leave of ^(F)the brothers and sisters and sailed away to ^(G)Syria, and ^(H)Priscilla and ^(I)Aquila were with him. ^[b]Paul first ^(J)had his hair cut at ^(K)Cenchrea, for he was keeping a vow. ¹⁹ They came to ^(L)Ephesus, and he left them there. Now he himself entered ^(M)the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. ²⁰ When they asked him to stay for a longer time, he did not consent, ²¹ but ^(N)took leave of them and said, “I will return to you again ^(O)if God wills,” and he set sail from ^(P)Ephesus.

²² When he had landed in ^(Q)Caesarea, he went up to Jerusalem and greeted the church, and went down to ^(R)Antioch.

Third Missionary Journey

²³ And after spending some time there, he left and passed successively through the ^(S)Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

²⁴ Now a Jew named ^(T)Apollos, an ^(U)Alexandrian by birth, ^[c]an eloquent man, came to ^(V)Ephesus; and he was proficient in the Scriptures. ²⁵ This man had been instructed in ^(W)the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was accurately speaking and teaching things about Jesus, being acquainted only with ^(X)the baptism of John; ²⁶ and ^[d]he began speaking boldly in the synagogue. But when ^(Y)Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained ^(Z)the way of God more accurately to him. ²⁷ And when he wanted to go across to ^(AA)Achaia, ^(AB)the brothers encouraged him and wrote to ^(AC)the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he greatly ^[e]helped those who had believed through grace, ²⁸ for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating ^(AD)by the Scriptures that ^(AE)Jesus was the ^[f]Christ.

⁶ After Festus had spent no more than eight or ten days among them, he went down to ^(A)Caesarea, and on the next day he took his seat on ^(B)the tribunal and ordered that Paul be brought.
