When the days of feasting had completed their cycle, Job would send word to them and consecrate them, getting up early in the morning and offering (A)burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, “(B)Perhaps my sons have sinned and (C)cursed God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.

(D)Now there was a day when the [a](E)sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and [b]Satan also came among them. The Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “(F)From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.”

When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified.(A) Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering(B) for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned(C) and cursed God(D) in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.

One day the angels[a](E) came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan[b](F) also came with them.(G) The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”(H)
