8 Egypt rises like the Nile,
And like the rivers whose waters surge;
And He has said, “I will (A)rise and cover that land;
I will (B)destroy the city and its inhabitants.”
9 Go up, you horses, and [a](C)drive wildly, you chariots,
So that the warriors may [b]march forward:
[c]Cush and [d](D)Put, who handle the shield,
And the [e](E)Lydians, who handle and bend the bow.
10 For (F)that day belongs to the Lord [f]God of armies,
A day of (G)vengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His foes;
And the (H)sword will devour and be satisfied,
And [g]drink its fill of their blood;
For there will be a (I)slaughter for the Lord [h]God of armies,
In the land of the north at the river Euphrates.

Jeremiah 46:8-10

8 Egypt rises like the Nile,(A)
like rivers of surging waters.
She says, ‘I will rise and cover the earth;
I will destroy cities and their people.’(B)
9 Charge, you horses!
Drive furiously, you charioteers!(C)
March on, you warriors—men of Cush[a](D) and Put who carry shields,
men of Lydia(E) who draw the bow.
10 But that day(F) belongs to the Lord, the Lord Almighty—
a day of vengeance(G), for vengeance on his foes.
The sword will devour(H) till it is satisfied,
till it has quenched its thirst with blood.(I)
For the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will offer sacrifice(J)
in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.(K)
