9 (A)Be delayed and horrified,
Blind yourselves and be blind;
They (B)become drunk, but not with wine,
They stagger, but not with intoxicating drink.
10 For the Lord has poured over you a spirit of deep (C)sleep,
He has (D)shut your eyes—the prophets;
And He has covered your heads—the seers.
11 The entire vision will be to you like the words of a sealed [a](E)book, which, when they give it to the one who [b]is literate, saying, “Please read this,” he will say, “I cannot, because it is sealed.” 12 Then the [c]book will be given to the one who [d]is illiterate, saying, “Please read this.” And he will say, “I [e]cannot read.”
13 Then the Lord said,
“Because (F)this people approaches Me with their [f]words
And honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me,
And their [g]reverence for Me [h]consists of the commandment of men that is taught;
14 Therefore behold, I will once again deal (G)marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous;
And (H)the wisdom of their wise men will perish,
And the understanding of their men who have understanding will be concealed.”

9 Be stunned and amazed,(A)
blind yourselves and be sightless;(B)
be drunk,(C) but not from wine,(D)
stagger,(E) but not from beer.
10 The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep:(F)
He has sealed your eyes(G) (the prophets);(H)
he has covered your heads (the seers).(I)
11 For you this whole vision(J) is nothing but words sealed(K) in a scroll. And if you give the scroll to someone who can read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I can’t; it is sealed.” 12 Or if you give the scroll to someone who cannot read, and say, “Read this, please,” they will answer, “I don’t know how to read.”
13 The Lord says:
“These people(L) come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,(M)
but their hearts are far from me.(N)
Their worship of me
is based on merely human rules they have been taught.[a](O)
14 Therefore once more I will astound these people
with wonder upon wonder;(P)
the wisdom of the wise(Q) will perish,
the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.(R)”

Behold, the prophets are telling them, ‘You (A)will not see a sword, nor will you have famine; on the contrary, I will give you lasting (B)peace in this place.’” 14 Then the Lord said to me, “The (C)prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. (D)I have neither sent them nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a (E)false vision, divination, futility, and the deception of their own [b]minds.

14 Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies(D) in my name. I have not sent(E) them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions,(F) divinations,(G) idolatries[a] and the delusions of their own minds.
