Isaiah 28:17-19

New American Standard Bible

¹⁷I will make ^(A)justice the measuring line
And righteousness the level;
Then ^(B)hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
And the waters will overflow the secret place.
¹⁸Your ^(C)covenant with death will be ^[a]^(D)canceled,
And your pact with Sheol will not stand;
When the ^(E)^[b]gushing flood passes through,
Then you will become its ^(F)trampling ground.
¹⁹As ^(G)often as it passes through, it will ^[c]seize you;
For ^(H)morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night,
And it will be ^[d]sheer ^(I)terror to understand ^[e]what it means.”

    and righteousness the plumb line;^(B)
hail^(C) will sweep away your refuge, the lie,
    and water will overflow^(D) your hiding place.
¹⁸Your covenant with death will be annulled;
    your agreement with the realm of the dead will not stand.^(E)
When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by,^(F)
    you will be beaten down^(G) by it.
¹⁹As often as it comes it will carry you away;^(H)
    morning after morning,^(I) by day and by night,
    it will sweep through.”
