³ and I will make you swear by the Lord, ^(A)the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you ^(B)shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of ^(C)the Canaanites, among whom I live;

^7 (A)The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my birth, and who spoke to me and who swore to me, saying, ‘^(B)To your ^[a]descendants I will give this land’—He will send ^(C)His angel ahead of you, and you will take a wife for my son from there.

²³ “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all His people, may the Lord his God be with him; ^[a]go up then!’”

¹¹ So they ^[a]answered us as follows, saying, ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, ^(A)which a great king of Israel built and finished.

⁴ Now when I heard these words, ^(A)I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before ^(B)the God of heaven.
