¹⁰ The ^(A)angel of the Lord also said to her, “^(B)I will greatly multiply your ^[a]descendants so that ^[b]they will be too many to count.”

¹⁸ Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him by ^[a]the hand, ^(A)for I will make a great nation of him.”

Descendants of Ishmael

¹² Now these are the records of the generations of ^(A)Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s slave woman, bore to Abraham; ¹³ and these are the names of ^(B)the sons of Ishmael, by their names, ^[a]in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael, Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages, and by their camps; ^(C)twelve princes according to their ^[b]tribes. ¹⁷ These are the years of the life of Ishmael, ^(D)137 years; and he breathed his last and died, and was ^(E)gathered to his people. ¹⁸ They ^[c]settled from ^(F)Havilah to ^(G)Shur which is ^[d]east of Egypt ^[e]going toward Assyria; ^(H)he ^[f]settled in defiance of all his relatives.
