18 Drottinn sagði við Aron: "Þú og synir þínir og ættleggur feðra þinna með þér skulu sæta hegningu fyrir það, sem brotið er á móti helgidóminum, og þú og synir þínir með þér skuluð sæta hegningu fyrir það, sem yður verður á í prestsembætti yðar.
2 Þú skalt taka með þér bræður þína, kynkvísl Leví, ættkvísl föður þíns. Þeir skulu vera þér við hönd og þjóna þér, þegar þú og synir þínir með þér eruð frammi fyrir sáttmálstjaldinu.
3 Og þeir skulu gegna því, er við þarf við þína þjónustu og við þjónustu alls tjaldsins. Þó skulu þeir eigi koma nærri hinum helgu áhöldum né altarinu, ella munu þeir deyja, bæði þeir og þér.
4 Og þeir skulu vera þér við hönd og annast það, sem annast þarf við samfundatjaldið, alla þjónustu við tjaldið, en eigi skal óvígður maður koma til yðar.
5 En þér skuluð annast það, sem annast þarf í helgidóminum og við altarið, svo að eigi komi reiði framar yfir Ísraelsmenn.
6 Og sjá, ég hefi tekið bræður yðar, levítana, úr Ísraelsmönnum sem gjöf yður til handa, sem þá, er gefnir hafa verið Drottni, til þess að gegna þjónustu við samfundatjaldið.
7 En þú og synir þínir með þér skuluð annast prestsembætti yðar í öllum þeim hlutum, er varða altarið og þjónustuna fyrir innan fortjaldið, þar skuluð þér gegna þjónustu. Ég fel yður prestdóminn og veiti yður þá þjónustu að gjöf. Komi nokkur annar þar nærri, skal hann lífi týna."
8 Drottinn sagði við Aron: "Sjá, ég gef þér það, sem varðveitast á af fórnargjöfum mínum. Af öllum helgigjöfum Ísraelsmanna gef ég þér og sonum þínum þær í þeirra hlut. Er það ævinleg skyldugreiðsla.
9 Þetta skal heyra þér af hinum háhelgu gjöfum, að því fráteknu, sem brenna skal: Allar fórnargjafir þeirra, bæði matfórnir, syndafórnir og sektarfórnir, er þeir færa mér í bætur. Eru þær háhelgar, og skulu heyra þér og sonum þínum.
10 Þú skalt eta þær á háhelgum stað. Allt karlkyn skal eta þær. Skulu þær vera þér heilagar.
11 Og þetta skal heyra þér sem fórnargjöf af öðrum gjöfum þeirra, af öllum veififórnum Ísraelsmanna: Ég gef þér þær, og sonum þínum og dætrum með þér. Er það ævinleg skyldugreiðsla. Allir hreinir menn í húsi þínu skulu eta þær.
12 Allt hið besta af olíunni og allt hið besta af aldinleginum og korninu, frumgróðann af því _ það er þeir gefa Drottni _ það hefi ég gefið þér.
13 Frumgróðinn af öllu því, er vex í landi þeirra og þeir færa Drottni, skal heyra þér. Allir hreinir menn í húsi þínu skulu eta hann.
14 Sérhver hlutur bannfærður í Ísrael skal heyra þér.
15 Allt það sem opnar móðurlíf, af öllu holdi, er menn færa Drottni, hvort heldur er menn eða skepnur, skal heyra þér. Þó skalt þú leysa láta frumburði manna, og frumburði óhreinna dýra skalt þú og leysa láta.
16 Og að því er snertir lausnargjald þeirra, þá skalt þú láta leysa þá, úr því þeir eru mánaðargamlir, eftir mati þínu, með fimm siklum, eftir helgidómssikli, tuttugu gerur í sikli.
17 En frumburði af nautum, sauðum eða geitum skalt þú ekki leysa láta. Þeir eru heilagir. Blóði þeirra skalt þú stökkva á altarið, og mörinn úr þeim skalt þú brenna sem eldfórn þægilegs ilms Drottni til handa.
18 En kjötið af þeim skal heyra þér. Það skal heyra þér, eins og veifibringan og hægra lærið.
19 Allar fórnargjafir af helgigjöfunum, sem Ísraelsmenn færa Drottni, hefi ég gefið þér og sonum þínum og dætrum með þér. Er það ævinleg skyldugreiðsla. Það er ævinlegur sáttmáli, helgaður með salti, fyrir augliti Drottins fyrir þig og niðja þína ásamt þér."
20 Drottinn sagði við Aron: "Þú skalt ekkert óðal eignast í landi þeirra og ekki eiga hlutskipti meðal þeirra. Ég er hlutskipti þitt og óðal þitt meðal Ísraelsmanna.
21 Og sjá, ég gef levítunum alla tíund í Ísrael til eignar fyrir þjónustuna, er þeir inna af hendi, þjónustuna við samfundatjaldið.
22 Og Ísraelsmenn skulu eigi framar koma nærri samfundatjaldinu, svo að þeir baki sér ekki synd og deyi.
23 Heldur skulu levítarnir gegna þjónustu við samfundatjaldið, og skulu sæta hegningu fyrir það, sem þeim verður á. Skal það vera ævarandi lögmál hjá yður frá kyni til kyns, en þeir skulu ekki eiga óðul meðal Ísraelsmanna.
24 Því að tíund Ísraelsmanna, er þeir færa Drottni að fórnargjöf, hefi ég gefið levítunum til eignar, þess vegna hefi ég sagt þeim, að þeir skuli ekki eiga óðul meðal Ísraelsmanna."
25 Drottinn talaði við Móse og sagði:
26 "Þú skalt tala við levítana og segja við þá: Þegar þér meðtakið tíundina frá Ísraelsmönnum, er ég hefi gefið yður til eignar og þeir skulu greiða yður, þá skuluð þér færa Drottni fórnargjöf af henni, tíund af tíundinni.
27 Og þessi fórnargjöf yðar skal reiknast yður sem væri það korn af láfanum eða gnótt úr vínþrönginni.
28 Þannig skuluð og þér færa Drottni fórnargjöf af allri þeirri tíund, er þér meðtakið frá Ísraelsmönnum, og af henni skuluð þér fá Aroni presti fórnargjöf Drottins.
29 Af öllu því, sem yður gefst, skuluð þér færa Drottni fórnargjöf, af öllu hinu besta af því, helgigjöfina, sem af því skal fram bera.
30 Og þú skalt segja við þá: Þegar þér hafið fram borið hið besta af því, þá skal hitt reiknast levítunum sem afurðir úr láfanum eða afurðir úr vínþrönginni.
31 Þér megið eta það hvar sem þér viljið, bæði þér og skyldulið yðar, því að það eru laun yðar fyrir þjónustu yðar við samfundatjaldið.
32 Og þér munuð ekki baka yður synd vegna þess, ef þér fram berið hið besta af því, og þá munuð þér eigi vanhelga helgigjafir Ísraelsmanna og eigi deyja."

Duties of Priests and Levites
18 The Lord said to Aaron, “You, your sons and your family are to bear the responsibility for offenses connected with the sanctuary,(A) and you and your sons alone are to bear the responsibility for offenses connected with the priesthood. 2 Bring your fellow Levites from your ancestral tribe to join you and assist you when you and your sons minister(B) before the tent of the covenant law. 3 They are to be responsible to you(C) and are to perform all the duties of the tent,(D) but they must not go near the furnishings of the sanctuary or the altar. Otherwise both they and you will die.(E) 4 They are to join you and be responsible for the care of the tent of meeting—all the work at the tent—and no one else may come near where you are.(F)
5 “You are to be responsible for the care of the sanctuary and the altar,(G) so that my wrath will not fall on the Israelites again. 6 I myself have selected your fellow Levites from among the Israelites as a gift to you,(H) dedicated to the Lord to do the work at the tent of meeting.(I) 7 But only you and your sons may serve as priests in connection with everything at the altar and inside the curtain.(J) I am giving you the service of the priesthood as a gift.(K) Anyone else who comes near the sanctuary is to be put to death.(L)”
Offerings for Priests and Levites
8 Then the Lord said to Aaron, “I myself have put you in charge of the offerings presented to me; all the holy offerings the Israelites give me I give to you and your sons as your portion,(M) your perpetual share.(N) 9 You are to have the part of the most holy offerings(O) that is kept from the fire. From all the gifts they bring me as most holy offerings, whether grain(P) or sin[a](Q) or guilt offerings,(R) that part belongs to you and your sons. 10 Eat it as something most holy; every male shall eat it.(S) You must regard it as holy.(T)
11 “This also is yours: whatever is set aside from the gifts of all the wave offerings(U) of the Israelites. I give this to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share.(V) Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean(W) may eat it.
12 “I give you all the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and grain(X) they give the Lord(Y) as the firstfruits of their harvest.(Z) 13 All the land’s firstfruits that they bring to the Lord will be yours.(AA) Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat it.(AB)
14 “Everything in Israel that is devoted[b] to the Lord(AC) is yours. 15 The first offspring of every womb, both human and animal, that is offered to the Lord is yours.(AD) But you must redeem(AE) every firstborn(AF) son and every firstborn male of unclean animals.(AG) 16 When they are a month old,(AH) you must redeem them at the redemption price set at five shekels[c](AI) of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel,(AJ) which weighs twenty gerahs.(AK)
17 “But you must not redeem the firstborn of a cow, a sheep or a goat; they are holy.(AL) Splash their blood(AM) against the altar and burn their fat(AN) as a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.(AO) 18 Their meat is to be yours, just as the breast of the wave offering(AP) and the right thigh are yours.(AQ) 19 Whatever is set aside from the holy(AR) offerings the Israelites present to the Lord I give to you and your sons and daughters as your perpetual share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt(AS) before the Lord for both you and your offspring.”
20 The Lord said to Aaron, “You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them;(AT) I am your share and your inheritance(AU) among the Israelites.
21 “I give to the Levites all the tithes(AV) in Israel as their inheritance(AW) in return for the work they do while serving at the tent of meeting.(AX) 22 From now on the Israelites must not go near the tent of meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and will die.(AY) 23 It is the Levites who are to do the work at the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for any offenses they commit against it. This is a lasting ordinance(AZ) for the generations to come.(BA) They will receive no inheritance(BB) among the Israelites.(BC) 24 Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the Lord.(BD) That is why I said concerning them: ‘They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.’”
25 The Lord said to Moses, 26 “Speak to the Levites and say to them: ‘When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you(BE) as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the Lord’s offering.(BF) 27 Your offering will be reckoned(BG) to you as grain from the threshing floor(BH) or juice from the winepress.(BI) 28 In this way you also will present an offering to the Lord from all the tithes(BJ) you receive from the Israelites. From these tithes you must give the Lord’s portion to Aaron the priest. 29 You must present as the Lord’s portion the best and holiest part of everything given to you.’
30 “Say to the Levites: ‘When you present the best part, it will be reckoned to you as the product of the threshing floor or the winepress.(BK) 31 You and your households may eat the rest of it anywhere, for it is your wages for your work at the tent of meeting.(BL) 32 By presenting the best part(BM) of it you will not be guilty in this matter;(BN) then you will not defile the holy offerings(BO) of the Israelites, and you will not die.’”
