² Then ^(A)Jeshua the son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests, and ^(B)Zerubbabel the son ^(C)of Shealtiel and his brothers, rose up and ^(D)built the altar of the God of Israel to offer burnt offerings on it, ^(E)as it is written in the Law of Moses, the man of God.

¹² Then ^(A)Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and ^(B)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, ^(C)obeyed the voice of the Lord their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, just as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people ^[a](D)showed reverence for the Lord.

⁶ Then he said to ^[a]me, “This is the word of the Lord to ^(A)Zerubbabel, saying, ‘^(B)Not by might nor by power, but by My ^(C)Spirit,’ says the Lord of armies. ⁷ ‘What are you, you great ^(D)mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring out the top stone with ^(E)shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’”

⁸ Also the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ⁹ “The hands of Zerubbabel have ^(F)laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will ^(G)finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of armies has sent me to ^[b]you.
