9 Ég sá Drottin standa við altarið, og hann sagði: Slá þú á súluhöfuðið, svo að þröskuldarnir skjálfi. Brjót þá sundur og kasta í höfuð þeim öllum. Og síðustu leifar þeirra vil ég deyða með sverði, enginn þeirra skal komast undan á flótta og enginn þeirra bjargast.
2 Þótt þeir brjótist niður í undirheima, þá skal hönd mín sækja þá þangað, þótt þeir stígi upp til himins, þá skal ég steypa þeim ofan þaðan.
3 Þótt þeir feli sig á Karmeltindi, þá skal ég leita þá þar uppi og sækja þá þangað, og þótt þeir vilji leynast fyrir augum mínum á mararbotni, skal ég þar bjóða höggorminum að bíta þá.
4 Og þótt þeir fari á undan óvinum sínum í útlegð, skal ég þar bjóða sverðinu að deyða þá, og ég vil beina augum mínum á þá, þeim til óhamingju, en ekki til hamingju.
5 Drottinn, Guð allsherjar, hann sem snertir jörðina, svo að hún riðar, og allir þeir, sem á henni búa, verða sorgbitnir, svo að hún hefst upp alls staðar eins og Níl-fljótið og lækkar eins og fljótið á Egyptalandi,
6 hann sem reist hefir á himnum sali sína og grundvallað hvelfing sína á jörðinni, hann sem kallaði á vötn sjávarins og jós þeim yfir jörðina _ Drottinn er nafn hans.
7 Eruð þér, Ísraelsmenn, mér mætari en Blálendingar? _ segir Drottinn. Hefi ég eigi flutt Ísrael af Egyptalandi og Filista frá Kaftór og Sýrlendinga frá Kír?
8 Sjá, auga Drottins Guðs hvílir á þessu glæpafulla konungsríki. Ég skal afmá það af jörðinni, _ og þó vil ég ekki með öllu afmá Jakobs niðja _ segir Drottinn.
9 Nei, ég skal svo um bjóða, að Ísraels hús verði hrist út á meðal allra þjóða, eins og korn er hrist í sáldi, án þess að nokkur steinvala falli til jarðar.
10 Allir syndarar þjóðar minnar skulu falla fyrir sverði, þeir sem segja: "Ógæfan mun eigi ná oss né yfir oss koma!"
11 Á þeim degi mun ég endurreisa hina föllnu tjaldbúð Davíðs. Ég mun hlaða upp í veggskörðin og reisa hana úr rústum og gjöra hana upp aftur, eins og hún var fyrr meir,
12 til þess að þeir nái undir sig leifum Edóms og öllum þeim þjóðum, sem nafn mitt hefir verið nefnt yfir _ segir Drottinn, sá er þessu mun til vegar koma.
13 Sjá, þeir dagar munu koma, _ segir Drottinn _ að erjandinn skal ná kornskurðarmanninum og víntroðslumaðurinn sáðmanninum. Þá munu fjöllin löðra í vínberjalegi og hálsarnir verða í einu flóði.
14 Þá mun ég snúa við högum lýðs míns Ísraels. Þeir munu byggja upp hinar eyddu borgir og búa í þeim, planta víngarða og drekka vín úr þeim, búa til aldingarða og eta ávöxtu þeirra.

Israel to Be Destroyed
9 I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said:
“Strike the tops of the pillars
so that the thresholds shake.
Bring them down on the heads(A) of all the people;
those who are left I will kill with the sword.
Not one will get away,
none will escape.(B)
2 Though they dig down to the depths below,(C)
from there my hand will take them.
Though they climb up to the heavens above,(D)
from there I will bring them down.(E)
3 Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel,(F)
there I will hunt them down and seize them.(G)
Though they hide from my eyes at the bottom of the sea,(H)
there I will command the serpent(I) to bite them.(J)
4 Though they are driven into exile by their enemies,
there I will command the sword(K) to slay them.
5 The Lord, the Lord Almighty—
he touches the earth and it melts,(O)
and all who live in it mourn;
the whole land rises like the Nile,
then sinks like the river of Egypt;(P)
6 he builds his lofty palace[a](Q) in the heavens
and sets its foundation[b] on the earth;
he calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out over the face of the land—
the Lord is his name.(R)
7 “Are not you Israelites
the same to me as the Cushites[c]?”(S)
declares the Lord.
“Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt,
the Philistines(T) from Caphtor[d](U)
and the Arameans from Kir?(V)
8 “Surely the eyes of the Sovereign Lord
are on the sinful kingdom.
I will destroy(W) it
from the face of the earth.
Yet I will not totally destroy
the descendants of Jacob,”
declares the Lord.(X)
9 “For I will give the command,
and I will shake the people of Israel
among all the nations
as grain(Y) is shaken in a sieve,(Z)
and not a pebble will reach the ground.(AA)
10 All the sinners among my people
will die by the sword,(AB)
all those who say,
‘Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’(AC)
Israel’s Restoration
11 “In that day
“I will restore David’s(AD) fallen shelter(AE)—
I will repair its broken walls
and restore its ruins(AF)—
and will rebuild it as it used to be,(AG)
12 so that they may possess the remnant of Edom(AH)
and all the nations that bear my name,[e](AI)”
declares the Lord, who will do these things.(AJ)
13 “The days are coming,”(AK) declares the Lord,
“when the reaper(AL) will be overtaken by the plowman(AM)
and the planter by the one treading(AN) grapes.
New wine(AO) will drip from the mountains
and flow from all the hills,(AP)
14 and I will bring(AQ) my people Israel back from exile.[f](AR)
“They will rebuild the ruined cities(AS) and live in them.
They will plant vineyards(AT) and drink their wine;
they will make gardens and eat their fruit.(AU)
15 I will plant(AV) Israel in their own land,(AW)
never again to be uprooted(AX)
from the land I have given them,”(AY)
says the Lord your God.(AZ)
