5 But He gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot of ground, and yet, (A)He promised that He would give it to him as a possession, and to his descendants after him, even though he had no child. 6 But (B)God spoke to this effect, that his descendants would be strangers in a land that was not theirs, and [a]they would enslave and mistreat them for four hundred years. 7 ‘And whatever nation to which they are enslaved I Myself will judge,’ said God, ‘and (C)after that they will come out and [b]serve Me in this place.’

5 He gave him no inheritance here,(A) not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land,(B) even though at that time Abraham had no child. 6 God spoke to him in this way: ‘For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated.(C) 7 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves,’ God said, ‘and afterward they will come out of that country and worship me in this place.’[a](D)
