Acts 7:40-42

40 (A)saying to Aaron, ‘Make us [a]a god who will go before us; for this Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt—we do not know what happened to him.’ 41 [b]At that time (B)they made a [c]calf and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in (C)the works of their hands. 42 But God (D)turned away and gave them over to [d]serve the heavenly [e]lights; as it is written in the book of the prophets: ‘(E)You did not offer Me victims and sacrifices (F)for forty years in the wilderness, did you, house of Israel?

New International Version
40 They told Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt—we don’t know what has happened to him!’[a](A) 41 That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and reveled in what their own hands had made.(B) 42 But God turned away from them(C) and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars.(D) This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets:
“‘Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings
forty years in the wilderness, people of Israel?
