32 And we (A)preach to you the good news of (B)the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by (C)raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘(D)You are My Son; today I have fathered You.’ 34 As for the fact that He (E)raised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘(F)I will give you the holy and faithful mercies of David.’ 35 Therefore, He also says in another Psalm: ‘(G)You will not [a]allow Your [b]Holy One to [c]undergo decay.’ 36 For (H)David, after he had [d]served God’s (I)purpose in his own generation, (J)fell asleep, and was [e]buried among his fathers and [f]underwent decay; 37 but He whom God (K)raised did not [g]undergo decay. 38 Therefore let it be known to you, [h]brothers, that (L)through [i]Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and [j]through Him (M)everyone who believes is [k]freed [l]from all things, from which you could not be [m]freed [n]through the Law of Moses. 40 Therefore, see that the thing spoken of (N)in the Prophets does not come upon you:

41 (O)Look, you scoffers, and be astonished, and [o]perish;
For I am accomplishing a work in your days,
A work which you will never believe, though someone should describe it to you.’”

42 As [p]Paul and Barnabas were going out, the people repeatedly begged to have these [q]things spoken to them the next (P)Sabbath. 43 Now when the meeting of the synagogue had broken up, many of the Jews and the (Q)God-fearing [r](R)proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas, who were speaking to them and urging them to continue in (S)the grace of God.

Paul Turns to the Gentiles

44 The next (T)Sabbath nearly all the city assembled to hear the word of [s]the Lord. 45 But when (U)the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were [t]blaspheming. 46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you (V)first. Since you repudiate it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, (W)we are turning to the Gentiles. 47 For so the Lord has commanded us,

(X)I have appointed You as a (Y)light [u]to the Gentiles,
That You may [v]bring salvation to the end of the earth.’”

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying (Z)the word of [w]the Lord; and all who (AA)had been appointed to eternal life believed. 49 And (AB)the word of the Lord was being spread through the whole region. 50 But (AC)the Jews incited the [x](AD)devout women (AE)of prominence and the leading men of the city, and instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their [y]region. 51 But (AF)they shook off the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to (AG)Iconium. 52 And the disciples were continually (AH)filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

32 “We tell you the good news:(A) What God promised our ancestors(B) 33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus.(C) As it is written in the second Psalm:

“‘You are my son;
    today I have become your father.’[a](D)

34 God raised him from the dead so that he will never be subject to decay. As God has said,

“‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’[b](E)

35 So it is also stated elsewhere:

“‘You will not let your holy one see decay.’[c](F)

36 “Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep;(G) he was buried with his ancestors(H) and his body decayed. 37 But the one whom God raised from the dead(I) did not see decay.

38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.(J) 39 Through him everyone who believes(K) is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.(L) 40 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:

41 “‘Look, you scoffers,
    wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days
    that you would never believe,
    even if someone told you.’[d](M)

42 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue,(N) the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. 43 When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.(O)

44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying(P) and heaped abuse(Q) on him.

46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first.(R) Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.(S) 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us:

“‘I have made you[e] a light for the Gentiles,(T)
    that you[f] may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’[g](U)

48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord;(V) and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

49 The word of the Lord(W) spread through the whole region. 50 But the Jewish leaders incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region.(X) 51 So they shook the dust off their feet(Y) as a warning to them and went to Iconium.(Z) 52 And the disciples(AA) were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.(AB)
