43 But the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, “[a](A)We have ten parts in the king, therefore [b]we also have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat [c]us with contempt? Was it not [d]our [e]advice first to bring back [f]our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.

43 Then the men of Israel(A) answered the men of Judah, “We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?”

But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

16 When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people replied to the king, saying,

“What share do we have in David?
We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse;
(A)To your tents, Israel!
Now look after your own house, David!”

So Israel went away to their tents.
