Furthermore, (A)he burned incense in the Valley of Ben-hinnom, and (B)burned his sons in fire, (C)according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had driven out from the sons of Israel. He sacrificed and (D)burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

Judah Is Invaded

Therefore (E)the Lord his God handed him over to the king of Aram; and they [a]defeated him and carried from him a great number of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also handed over to the king of Israel, who struck him with heavy casualties.

He burned sacrifices in the Valley of Ben Hinnom(A) and sacrificed his children(B) in the fire, engaging in the detestable(C) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. He offered sacrifices and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops and under every spreading tree.

Therefore the Lord his God delivered him into the hands of the king of Aram.(D) The Arameans defeated him and took many of his people as prisoners and brought them to Damascus.

He was also given into the hands of the king of Israel, who inflicted heavy casualties on him.
