⁹ And David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to the words of men ^[a]who say, ‘Behold, David is seeking ^[b]to harm you’?

¹⁸ He also said, “^(A)Why then is my lord pursuing his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?

²² My God ^(A)sent His angel and ^(B)shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, since ^[a]I was found innocent before Him; and also ^[b]toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”

³² Jesus replied to them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?”

⁸ while Paul said in his own defense, “^(A)I have not done anything wrong either against the Law of the Jews, or against the temple, or against Caesar.”

¹¹ If, therefore, I am in the wrong and have committed something deserving death, I am not trying to avoid execution; but if there is nothing to the accusations which these men are bringing against me, no one can hand me over to them. I ^(A)appeal to Caesar.”

²⁵ But I found that he had committed ^(A)nothing deserving death; and since he himself ^(B)appealed to ^[a]the Emperor, I decided to send him.
