⁵four thousand Levites will be gatekeepers, and four thousand Levites will praise the Lord with musical instruments I made for giving praise.”

⁶David separated the Levites into three groups that were led by Levi’s three sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁷From the people of Gershon, there were Ladan and Shimei.

⁵Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instruments^(A) I have provided for that purpose.”^(B)

⁶David separated^(C) the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi:^(D) Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

⁷Belonging to the Gershonites:^(E)

Ladan and Shimei.

⁵Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the Lord with the instruments which I made, said David, to praise therewith.

⁶And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁷Of the Gershonites were, Laadan, and Shimei.
