What guides your decisions about what Bibles to include or not include in Bible Gateway?

Our decisions about which Bibles to include in Bible Gateway’s online library are most importantly guided by a Christian perspective, expressed in our Statement of Faith. We understand that there are differences of opinion and theology within the Christian family, and that the many different Bible versions available reflect differing but legitimate efforts to translate God’s unchanging Word. In discerning which Bible translations reflect a broadly held view of Christian orthodoxy, we prayerfully rely for advice on a team of respected Bible scholars and publishers from across the broad spectrum of Bible publishing and academia. It is our intention that the Bibles displayed on Bible Gateway would be generally accepted by Christians as reliable translations and paraphrases that faithfully reflect the meaning of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts of the Bible.

Secondary to this, but also important, is the question of time, resources, and other logistical questions. Attaining permission to add a Bible to our library and making it available on Bible Gateway can involve a great deal of time, energy, and work. Occasionally the addition of an otherwise worthy Bible translation or other piece of content must be prioritized below more pressing projects. Bible Gateway may also decide that a particular Bible translation is not a good fit for Bible Gateway's environment for other reasons.
